I am currently building a new server and I am planning to use a usb-card where it is possible to disable the 5V output. Will the Dev work without this?

I should know this because I used USB to my amp for many years, but I don't remember any more. I think it needs the 5V to sense a connection, but does not require bus power as the XMOS is powered internally.

It's been discussed here before and from memory, Ogs's answer was the outcome.

It's easily tested. Just cut a cheap cable up and try.
