With the Phantom Premier I if one does not want to risk it with the DOS thing and is happy...ish with the SPARK app (despite disappointed it is not updated for PC use...), will the remote V2 work with DIALOG etc? Or is it another upgrade to DOS and buy more push for an (expensive) remote since SPARK will stop working/connect, DIALOG rendered useless? How do one control sound volume without using a phone??? Makes no sense to me... But again I suspect that this is a good move to make people buy the remote v2 at an extorting price, am I correct? But beside this, the risk that the system stops working properly after upgrade is not worth the risk and therefore, updating for me is simply not a current option...

Why is it so hard to find such critical info from DEVIALET?
There is no hardware volume control on the Dialog and software volume control is on Spark. With a DOS2 setup, volume control is on Devialet app and optionally on hardware remote. Do not understand why you object to using software volume control on DOS2 when you do the same in DOS1?

It is of course your choice on whether you upgrade from DOS1 but you are using something that is no longer supported by Devialet and most people here have a hard time even remembering DOS1 and Spark.
I would strongly recommend DOS2/Devialet app. It's way better than DOS1/spark. Less bugs, more reliable, way better physical volume control (Remote v1 vs v2), Roon integration, EQ, web interface, less latency, etc. The Dialog can be used as an extra optical input and will work as an AirPlay bridge for the speakers if they are old and without AirPlay.

Questions:
1 - Without a phone, how do you change volume? Answer use a remote, ok but the remote is exorbitantly expensive here, $369 just for that is a rort...
From experience and forums entries, I have learned that when it comes from DEVIALET, if it works, DO NOT FK with it... don't update, don't change anything ... Enjoy your luck...basically. My "old" DIALOG/SPARK and PHANTOM I pair WORK flawlessly since I set them up (except when there is a power failure (storm etc.) then DIALOG must be reset which means resetting the 2 PHANTOMS as well each time...
2 - If I upgrade to DOS...2? and something bad happens, then what? I will be like many out there up sh1t creek without a paddle with NO way back whatsoever... I like a gamble, but I  am not game! Until DEVIALET gets a reputation of a CLASS 1 SW developer... I prefer to abstain. They don't seem to be very agile in that field...
3 - At least with DIALOG/SPARK system, I can control the volume on my PC~!!! As on Android (I would not touch Apple crap EVER), it's not always the smoothest (doesn't always like hibernation for instance) but it works! At least it is even more enjoyable than the app... which is stable but does not like to refresh, but it's a very minor thing to me.

My sole question is, does the Remote V2 (if I can find one at a good price) works with DOS1? SPARK/DIALOG?
Short answer to your question: No.

Edit:
@alexandredp I've upgraded over 10 Phantoms to DOS2 over the years, and I had no trouble at all.
Don't know about the remote...

Regarding controlling sound level from PC, what sources do you use?

Best,

So, you are using a PC to control volume and do NOT want to use an Android phone? If that is the case, stay with DOS1.  However, if you are prepared to migrate to DOS2, the Devialet Android is all you need to control volume, set up, recover etc.  The Remote is optional.
@alexandredp If you don't want to use a phone, here's how to run Android apps in Windows 11.

Definitely recommend DOS2 over DOS1. For me, most all of the tweaky problems have been fixed, all those things that made you live the reset procedure on a regular basis.
I'm one of those people that have had problems with upgrading from DOS1 on DOS2 (Silver Phantom I circa 2015) I did end up with a Bricked out of warranty device. (don't recall exactly how long but it was past but not all that long) This was also shortly after the DOS2 release and Devialet stood behind their product.  Perhaps contacting them around the upgrade to get their sage advice and direct support would be a way to hedge your bets if anything should go wrong.  In any case I would do it sooner than later the clock is always ticking.

About controlling the volume - this is the only thing i used spark for.
The old v1 remote is junk (perhaps it worked better with DOS1)? but compared to the v2 remote - in practice v1 sits someplace - drains the batteries - gets fresh batteries - repeat.

The android solution in Win11 works well - but it's a small pain when updates are released, updating the android app is a manual process and at least once required a little tweaking either due to WSA (windows subsystem for android ) image changes or APP changes. it is alive - Devialet on Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) (2) (devialetchat.com)  probably good to reference other articles since there could be some differences in the UX depending on which build/version of Windows and WSA you are using exactly.
this might not be for the faint of tech hacks - there are 3 moving targets, Windows, WSA, and the Devialet app upgrades..

i primarily use slCMDR a CLI app based on the WEB api now part of DOS2.  slaCmdr - pilot your phantoms from the command line (2) (devialetchat.com)  https://halrad.com  or sometimes use slPhantomTray but found i really use the command line app more than the GUI app.  I have shortcuts to set inputs Arch or Dialog to click.  and use an elgato streamdeck to run commands from button presses to turn the volume up or down, or to set the inputs. (using slCMDR).  Few tweaky things still to work out if you use multiple pairs.  still need to use the Android app to pair or unpair devices from "rooms"

But when needed can fire up the android app on one of the desktops and get what i need done without hunting for a phone.

i also have an old android phone i use mostly just as a remote as a back up when you really need it.

but will mention 80-90 % of the time i use the V2 hw remote for my primary listening case.

feedback for devialet: (who has from my experiences the most awesome support team - thank you!)

-> ASK for the Devialet IP control API
- requirement: Devialet Remote control API :
- Enable methods to manage groups. Implement the ability to create | destroy Groups to support multiple systems in a muli-room use case like one can do with the devialet app.

I think I like the mono tasked "old phone" solution just need to buy one second hand that can run Devialet app ok... what is the android minimum version that app can run on properly? Phone will just have to cost less than $130 us to be worthwhile vs remote v2... Then I need to make sure DOS 2 lets me play sound via Bluetooth and/or SPDIF ok with super low lag too... I hear it is doing well in those cases care to confirm?
