Hi guys

Sorry if this have been already asked but I could not find any precise advice or info on the internet. My setup is a LG Oled G1 and a pair of phantom I

I would like to know what is the best option, in terms of sound quality (I) and stability (II) ease of use (II)

Apple TV > Airplay > Phantoms or

TV > Toslink optical > Phantoms

I have a very stable and robust wifi, but I could connect the pair of Phantom to RJ45 (only one on the wall tho, I don't know if it's impactful). If I take Apple TV I'll use everything with the apple tv, stream all my content. So far the only times I had problem is when I swtich from TV sound ('toslink) to airplay (iphone) and come back, then phantoms are lost and not responsive. Going to full Airplay could help I imagine.

- Is Apple TV capable of delivering same audio quality through Airplay 2 (I think it's Airplay 2 for phantoms?)

- I think Airplay will allow me to control sound with the apple tv remote? so I can leave the devialet remote and use one remote for all.

- Does the apple tv will automatically select the phantoms as audio output after restarting? if yes this is great because my old stays in optical output when restarting.

Any other thoughts?

thank you for your help!

Justin
Optical is always going to be more reliable.
Sound quality and stability wise I would choose optical, ease of use would be AirPlay.

I mean yeah in general but in my case I have a very good internet - plus, with Devialet Phantom x2, one with optical and then they need to play in stereo and like that I do have some cuts…

My principal concerns is about sound quality, idk if airplay 2 allow same less or more data. For example it could be written « lossless » on my iPhone when playing airplay to phantoms, so it should be as much good as optical?

Are we sure about sound quality?
Cf my comment - iPhone can play lossless music through airplay so it can’t make much difference? It’s is the major point for me

Thank you !
My understanding is that airplay 2 still compresses the audio stream, whereas optical is an uncompressed stream. Even though codecs are lossless, you are still manipulating the the audio stream when you process it. If sound quality is important, then optical is the way to go.
It annoys me that lip synchronization with the latest TV from LG with the Phantom I only works reliably with an optical source. The volume can then only be controlled with the Devialet app and no longer with the TV remote control.
With Bluetooth, lip synchronization neither works in WLAN nor if each individual Phantom is connected to the router with Ethernet. With Bluetooth, I have to turn the source off and on several times for each film to lip sync.

And the Devialet remote is also a joke, is only suitable for controlling a single Phantom or a stereo pair.
I have 6 Phantoms in the four corners of the room, two in front of the TV, in three stereo pairs. When using the optical source you would have to control the three stereo pairs with three Devialet remotes for three stereo pairs. It's ridiculous that when you use the optical source you are essentially forced to use your smartphone to change the volume.

The app is also a joke, doesn't save the volume settings.
After switching the source off and on again, all three stereo pairs always have the same volume, so I have to adjust the rear stereo pair a little louder every time I switch it on, just the way I want it.
DEVILET is crap apart from the great bass.
