This is a survey on AIR and the incidence of white noise.


The results will be fed back to Devialet on an anonymised basis.


If you read this post, I'd be grateful if you would respond to it if you 


- have used AIR but no longer do so;


- still use AIR.


Please do not respond if you have never used AIR.

Please regard AIR as meaning AIR ethernet and/or AIR wifi, as the context refers.

Please regard white noise as meaning EITHER a random repeating signal of fairly constant density, which might emerge quickly or after some time OR dropouts OR crackling. There will be a second survey which will allow you to categorise your particular type of white noise.

The reference to mid 2014 means the time of introduction of Firmware 7.1.1 and AIR 2.1.2/2.1.3.

I have to admit i can't recall if I got the white noise issue prior to mid-2014.
I also only got dropouts but then I was using JRiver/AIR (WASAPI bit perfect). It was only since trying iTunes/AIR (not bit perfect) that I heard the white noise issue in place of dropouts. Duration of events is about the same (maybe 2-5 seconds each) though I did get one white noise event that just went on for over a minute until I had to turn off the Devialet.
Frequency of white noise/dropouts seems to increase if higher res music is played.

Two hours listening through AIR ethernet tonight and then the white noise is there with a vengeance. Then every few minutes after that.

Getting a little frustrating

You only need 4 votes if you use both PC and Mac - sorry!

This morning, using AIR/USB from my Win Tablet to D200, playing an online song (just one particular song FLAC lossless), white noise appeared.  I've double confirmed by switching back and forth from AIR to USB mode. White noises only appeared with this particular song only. Other songs playing fine. Hmm... what do you guys think of this?

Let me add that this particular song is the first song I tried to play this morning.

I have experienced white noise on hi-res only
I have experienced white noise on 16/44.1
I use a Mac and get white noise

I have regretfully stopped using AIR ethernet completely months ago after I upgraded to OSX 10.x and 7.1.1.

It is just totally un-usable.

I have been using USB since then, running Audirvana. I feel that the sound has improved a lot with the recent dot releases and I regret AIR less and less though.
