A bit bonkers, but I love it.

An American music magazine, Rory Gallagher once referred to Rory Gallagher as "The best normal guitar player in the world." Rory Gallagher was truly the best in his inimitable way, and he stayed normal - almost too normal, timid and modest.

I went to a Rory Gallagher tribute night somewhere in Holland years ago. There was this German band that played his songs in an improvised very loud but very tight way. Unbelievably good fun. They blew away The Juke Joints, the Dutch band we came to see. So if you get a chance to see that German band (no idea of their name sorry) you're in for a treat.

Yes, good fun stuff, I'm rather fond of it too!

I am listening to this tonight - does the album cover remind anyone of a certain product?

Absolutely; Weltron all-in-one gadgets from about 1975. Rubber suction cup on the bottom. Ah, the good old days of cassettes and 8 tracks.....

Oh, and Thievery Corporation. Great stuff. Saw them live about 8, 10 years ago. Love Mirror Conspiracy and Richest Man in Babylon.

RE: What album are you listening tonight? - baddog - 26-Jul-2017

Damon - yes indeed, and possibly an early Phantom prototype, or at least a distant cousin.....Wink

And I am jealous, never got to seeing them live, must have been quite the show!

.... Phantom?... Hmmm. Nope; doesn't ring any bells. Tongue  I realize I went flying past the obvious.... the Phantom bit. Oh well. Must be a sign of old age. But good call on the Thievery Corporation collection. What is nice about that kind of collection is that one get to know a few new groups to explore. Remixes and reconstructions of songs can be variable in quality: Thievery Corp manages to keep the bar set fairly high.

And just realized I'm west of the Rockies too! Ain't geography amazing.

Well, thanks for the tip on Mirror Conspiracy, I don't have that one.

The Weltron answer gets you 100 points, I had to google the image to figure out what the device was, all I saw were images of v.01 Phantoms dancing in my head.....

I am a shade over 1500 kilometers directly south of you, as the crow flies, and there is a Richmond not too far away.

I must have heard the Beatles Blue Greatest Hits album a thousand times on 8 track in the old family station wagon back in the day.

And on that note, off to listen to The Richest Man in Babylon.
