RE: What album are you listening tonight? - Delija - 27-May-2021 Together with a recommendation for a great album I have a question - how does the vibraphone on this album sound to you? Is it a little too "hot"? How does it feel for your ears when listening a little louder? For example, the first track at about 00:45 is pretty good example. But not only this part - the whole song and a good part of the others. There may even be a slight clipping at that particular spot - and the whole recording is pretty loud. If possible, try both the speakers and the headphones or at least on two different systems. I asked a couple of my Hi-Fi buddies the same question and opinions differ - together with systems, but also the ears https://listen.tidal.com/album/1294336 https://www.qobuz.com/no-en/album/the-big-3-milt-jackson-joe-pass-ray-brown/0002521868052 RE: What album are you listening tonight? - Axel - 27-May-2021 (27-May-2021, 01:11)Delija Wrote: Together with a recommendation for a great album I have a question - how does the vibraphone on this album sound to you? Listening on my IEMs, 1.20 into track 2 it sounds to be getting hot, bordering on piercing, but the whole recording sounds toppy to me. There’s quite a bit of hiss, but ‘76, so, obviously analogue. I’ll try it on my other ‘phones and systems later. Vibes are like that though, the harder they hit them and the higher up the register they play, the more strident they get. Think Glockenspiel. Think hitting an anvil with a hammer. Lovely album by the way! Thanks @Delija Edit: same track, 2.59. Right ear. Ouch! LIVE AT VIENNE RE: What album are you listening tonight? - K4680 - 31-May-2021 Jeff Beck Truth Jeff Beck's mentor and producer Mickie Most had the right nose. After separating from the Yardbirds and three successful pop singles, he relied on a solid band for the guitar artist. This was created with singer Rod Stewart, bassist Ron Wood and drummer Micky Waller. The 1968 debut album Truth is firmly rooted in blues rock and contains originals by Willi Dixon, Muddy Waters and Howlin 'Wolf. Beck and Stewart, however, changed titles by B. B. King and Buddy Guy so much that they pass as their own compositions. At the same time, the album was groundbreaking for heavy metal and is just as influential as the first works of the Beatles, Stones or The Who. (Sieveking Sound) RE: What album are you listening tonight? - Axel - 18-Jun-2021 Steve Lukather-I’ve Found The Sun Again. Great music and sound. He covers Robin Trower’s-Bridge of Sighs with nods to Hendrix and SRV RE: What album are you listening tonight? - Axel - 20-Jun-2021 John Hiatt Different. Dark. Personally,I love it. YMMV. RE: What album are you listening tonight? - K4680 - 21-Jun-2021 FZ Zappa 88, The Last U.S Show „ Zappa '88: The Last U.S. Show “and is the first posthumous archive release from the live band from '88 and contains 29 unreleased recordings, including additional performances from the same tour: Zappa's wild renditions of“ Whipping Post ”by the Allman Brothers Band and“ Stairway To Heaven ”by Led Zepplin , as well as the legendary “Beatles Medley”. Despite private tensions, the 88 ‘Essemble was musically considered the best of all Zappa's band constellations, and Zappa's newly found favorite instrument, the synclavier, also contributed to this impression. Zappa himself described his band, a mix of long-established members and fresh newcomers, with the famous phrase: “The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life”.
