Most irritating issue as of now? - Mikeeo - 27-Jul-2015

Hi,

I guess we all have our issues with our lovely units though hopefully few!?

What is the most irritating feature/issue that you have at the moment?

My no. 1 is the remote and its non existent display as I like to toggle different function quite frequent. Though I need to bend down, put my face at 15 cm from the upwards facing unit display etc. This makes me furious. So much for a convenient sofa control!
This is what Devialet writes:
"the Devialet Expert remote enables you to drive your system with unparalleled finesse." What is the finesse of having my kind of routine to know what I am doing with my control? The Ipad app is more or less useless as well!

Enjoying the settings options and 'finesse', think so not!

Other issues from forum members?

/Mike

I totally agree, the remote is ergonomically superb but it's features are pretty useless unless you have your main unit right next to you.

The schlep required to change  config..and the useless remote

I find the volume control on the remote very tactile and lovely. My gripe is trying to figure if it's out of standby or not - whether the remote's power button press had any effect or not. And then I have to get up and see if the display is bright or dim!
I find reception seems to be better when I lift the remote up and point the base of the remote at the unit.

I tend to turn mine on the old fashioned way by pushing the button and using the remote for adjusting the volume only. As everyone says, without a display on the remote or being able to view the porthole display, it's difficult to track what you are doing. Ho Hum!

I actually think the remote is fantastic and was one of the things that first grabbed me about the Devialet. Most remotes offered by rival hifi companies are cheap and nasty and there is something about having a large tactile volume knob. Despite the lack of screen the Devialet one is brilliantly executed.

My biggest gripe is probably the need to use SD cards to upgrade firmware and configurator settings. I think Devialet should look at the Linn Konfig approach which in my opinion is far superior.

For me, the AIR issue is the most annoying. It is now clear that Devialet have some serious issues with AIR and with the internal clocking that is imbedded deep within windows, with this I have a degree of sympathy.

What really irritates me is how Devialet can release beta versions of AIR, request feedback from customers, and then offer zero feedback in return. I am convinced that if Devialet did share more information, that there would be some individuals in the customer base, IT specialists, Windows specialists or whatever, who could maybe assist in mitigating the issue. Even if this is not the case, any form of feedback would be welcome, rather than the normal "rest assured that our engineers are working hard to resolve the issue".

More feedback from Devialet could also assist in resolving the issue from a different direction, that is, mitigate the issues in the AIR software by tweaking settings in the associated PC. Some of us are doing this already by changing power management settings, disabling screen saver modes, and even in some cases disabling anti virus software or Windows defender. However, this is all a bit trial and error, it would be much better if it was based on some hard facts and data.

Without a doubt the AIR issues. I love the remote app too

My issues are 1) Having to use the SD card for updates, 2) Lack of an app for remote usage and 3) The seemingly lack of software development discipline.

Fortunately, I haven't had the problems some other forum members have experienced.

I actually like the Remote, but because of where my D400 is located I can not see the display, so I have to rely on the "remote" app to change inputs and volume. My gripe is that the "remote" app is basic and does not cover many functions. Like others I also find it a "faff" having  to play around with SD cards to update FW.
