Connecting a record player - ChalleB - 27-Jan-2016

I have a single silver phantom, is it possible to connect a vinyl record player?
and if so, which type of record player does one need and how is it connected? and how does one control volume?

You have different ways to do so:

1. get a turntable with integrated optical output (e.g. Pro-Ject Essential II DIGITAL),

or

2. get any regular turntable and phono amplifier you like plus an analog to digital converter (e.g. CYP AU-D4)

Thanks,

but how do you control volume?

Sorry, I tried to edit my message right after posting it but it seems that the edit was not added...

The volume would be controlled via Spark or the Devialet Remote, like for any other source.

Are there better products to convert analog to digital than CYP AU-D4? Is there any losses using this device?

I have a high end turntable and a phono stage. Just looking at best way to connect them to Phantom.

There are several options when you only need line in and optical out. I think the ADL Stratos (http://www.adl-av.com/products/usbdac/stratos/) is one of the more high end solutions available. I went for an unorthodox solution, the Musical Fidelity Merlin which also solved some other audio requirements I had (http://www.musicalfidelity.com/merlin).

Thanks Seb.

This seems like an impressive unit. However it doesn't have optical out.

Yes, I had this one on my list as well. There are Coax to Optical converters, but it would be an additional step. However, at this price point, the ADL Stratos seems to be a good alternative.

Try the CYP with your existing set up and see what you think, I think it does an excellent job and it's a cheap step
