RE: Sonore Streamers - Hifi_swlon - 30-Apr-2016

Anyone had confirmation that there's has been shipped, or for the Europeans any idea of delivery times?
(Ah, OK, edited to say I now see others asking the same so I guess not Sad)

I know Sonore are a tiny boutique outfit but you just get so used to almost instant order processing these days.....

RE: Sonore Streamers - Petter - 01-May-2016

dont the Sonore with microRendu plan to make their own powersuppys dedicated to the micro one ?

RE: Sonore Streamers - Antoine - 01-May-2016

Yes they do, it'll follow soon and is called the 'Sonore Signature Series linear power supply'. But it's going to be expensive. Based on posts on CA by Barrows who's part of the Sonore team I'm estimating it'll cost at least $1400-1500.

My short list today is: (could be different again tomorrow Smile)
- upcoming Uptone 'mystery PSU' (needs to be fed 12V/1,5A, 9V/2A or 7.5V/2.5A PSU)
- Paul Hynes SR3/SR5 or DIY using Paul's regulators. May also become a custom multi rail solution to power another device in parallel, like my Anti-Mode.
- Sonore Signature Series LPSU

I may just start out with a dirt cheap Chinese LPSU or even the cheap iFi 9V SMPS to await all new developments. That could save me some money in the long run.

Not, not yet.  Just the paypal receipt.

Thank you! Smile

I will talk more to Paul next week about building a top notch PSU for the microRendu. I will build it according to his specs but I feel confident to put it together my self.

It would be great if you could keep us updated on specs and price, this PSU may be interesting for several others too.

I will do that.

My plans were first to make a PSU that could drive my fiberconverter, router and the microRendu but after some discusion about the effects of SMPS I decided to start with a really good PSU for the microRendu, that I have not yet talked to Paul Haynes about just making the best for the microRendu.

That would indeed be very interesting, thank you Octaviars! Smile

I ordered mine from Small green computer and they would ship it in the next week, they had many orders to ship.

Mmm, locally sourced ifi power supply arrived and in my hands, yet no sign even of despatch details for the mR.
So there's going to be a lot of anticipation I guess, especially if we add customs into the mix.....

Meanwhile, a lone power supply that doesn't actually fit anything else I own has got to be one of the most boring purchases ever..... any suggestions for it, preferably not involving somewhere the sun don't shine? Wink

Any reason and good arguments why Sonore is preferred ?

According to the SOtM website the new sMS-200 will be unveiled in May at the Munich High End.

Hardware and software specification published on the website are as follows:
"sMS-200 is a new generation of mini network player with built in ‘Media Player Board’ developed by our own technology.
The significance of sMS-200 comes from the dedicated ARM processor board developed for only audio purpose, it is definitely not the similar kind of those ready-made processor boards in the market offered with dazzling low price but not that much of high sound quality, of which the most of audio product manufacturers experience deterioration of sound and are forced to use unnecessary features from the ready-made boards, but now it’s gone with the sMS-200.
SOtM developed the product just for audio sound performance, getting rid of all unnecessary features concentrating on the high quality sound tone at a reasonable price.
sMS-200 is particularly designed to provide the best sound quality based on our own unique technologies accumulated to date since those days of media players, and it is probably be the only one capable product exceeding the current network players on the market in terms of functionalities.
As to the player software, ROON, MPD, DLNA, SqueezeLite and others are available. And the music files from an external USB storage device, network shared folders and streaming services are also available. As well, the more functions can be easily added via software upgrade.
Plus, the simple and nice looking Web GUI allows users to choose the desired audio function, setup and control playing music file through Apps on users’ smart devices."

Hardware Specification
Dual core ARM processor
2G DDR3 RAM
microSD slot for OS
Audio grade USB port x 1
USB port x 2 for standard USB device
GigaBit Ethernet port x 1
Optional WiFi module
Power input : 9V/2A max
Software Specification
RoonReady
Logitech Media Server
Squeezelite
MPD & DLNA audio Renderer
Shairport
HQplayer NAA
and others
Dimension : 105 x 53 x 150(mm)
Weight : 1kg >

Looks like a competitor for the new Sonore MicroRendu! They should have the same software, same functionalities, similar dedicated board, similar audio grade USB port.

sMS-200 is certainly bigger, has 2 more USB ports for attaching external hard-drives and don't know about the Ethernet port

Not really in my case - I'd just been following the Sonore development thread at CA so stuck with that one.

I don't there's a price for the sotm yet? That might be a deciding factor. That and we don't know when it will go on sale. It may well be a better product though for all we know. i very much doubt either will be easy to get hold of for testing, so hOpefully a few people will buy it so we can have a swap around and do some comparisons. Smile

I hear the software is sotms own - Sonore apparently didn't share anything with them despite past collaborations.

Ditto here.... I was first considering the SonicOrbiter SE since it was at a great pricepoint, but then started reading about the microRendu and just got caught up in it.  If SoTM (or anyone else) can produce something comparable or better, more power to them.  But my guess is that it will be hard to beat the microRendu unless they can come in at a substantially better pricepoint with similar quality.   But it all bodes well for the future of music streaming.

RE: Sonore Streamers - Antoine - 03-May-2016

I also noticed the SOtM, mentioned it earlier in this topic: http://devialetchat.com/showthread.php?tid=2559&pid=38982#pid38982 They are the copycats.

It's very similar hardware component wise but it's the chef and the recipe that determine if the sperate ingredients make a nice meal. I think that the software of the microRendu will be better as they are and keep using the SonicOrbiter suite/base which has been around for quite some time. The developer of SonicOrbiter/VortexBox is also a keyplayer/part of the microRendu team. SoTM has to create their own distribution or find one somewhere else. Of course similar applications like MPD will become part of the distribution. However it all remains to be seen which one will be better, one of both is just out and the other will be soon. Perhaps we bet on the wrong horse, all part of the game! Smile
