I only found out after the longest estimated shipping date had passed, and I repeatedly chased.

It's a real shame - I understand Paul's a 'one man band' and his products are good, but I think a bit of modernisation might be in order... It's really making me regret not ordering an LPS-1 to be honest. Oh well, let's just hope it ships by its new estimated date.

Delayed how long?  I have to say that I initially felt a little negative towards the LPS-1, but over on CA it does appear to be getting universaly positive comments, so now I'm tempted.  I was going to suggest you vote with your feet and cancel the Paul Hynes, but I'm guessing you've paid a huge deposit, plus I think it will be an excellent piece of kit when it does finally arrive, a lot neater than a PSU that needs an LPSU to power it.

Estimated at a week.  That's after 4 weeks.
Deposit?! You pay upfront. Confused

And while there's a chance to return after evaluation if you're not happy, you can't cancel after ordering as parts are ordered in against it. So said the order confirmation or an email along the way somewhere.

Ok, I'm probably being a bit impatient, but because of the other threads I came across after ordering it (you know the ones) I emailed to check things were on schedule and was told 'yes, at this stage'. Mmmm. I'm just panicking in advance I suppose having read the history. I mean I knew it wasn't Amazon, but.... I sense the numerous caveats in Paul's lead times kind of mean he never has to stick to them.

Maybe it's just reading LPS-1 reviews making me more impatient! Like you say I'm sure it will be great when it arrives.

Hang on... stupid question here but would the Paul Hynes not work with the LPS-1? No idea what voltage rails you have...

It would but they claim it's pointless using a decent 'energising' supply as it makes no difference.
Would make it a very expensive LPS-1 too.... if I was going that route I would just use the ifi I've already got.

Ok makes sense, I must admit I don't know much about the LPS-1 although I've read the odd bit of forum hype about it.

Damn it with the pound now at 1.19 to the dollar (that's what my bank quoted me today!) these things are getting more expensive.  Angry

Yeah, and forget about Euro based deals! At one point I considered a Mutec, but now it's seeming really expensive.

At least in the most part brands (inc Devialet) stitch us up and block us from buying in Euro and make us pay more in pounds, so there's not much change there.

The gist of the LPS-1 (as far as I understand it) is it uses a power supply purely to charge the ultra capacitors (or whatever they're called), and that this energising power supply is completely isolated from the output, so they say even a cheap SMPS does the trick. There have been discussions about generic SMPS noise on the mains being an issue, but most say it's irrelevant from what I read, or that a cheap eBay type linear is all that's needed. There's loads of SMPS on my mains and I don't have a dedicated circuit so I can't be too fussy anyway - although I did wonder if I should get a few filters for stuff in the lounge, or for the hifi. It's all more cost, complexity and unknowns though.....

In my humble opinion, the Mutec would be a bargain at twice its current price. Shy  Think of all that speaker cable cash you've saved!

In my humble opinion, many times its current price, of course a good AES/EBU cable helps a little too !!!

Haha, yeah but I'd kind of already spent that on something I said I wouldn't spend it on (well, sort of).

Extended LPS shipping date comes and goes without any communication or shipping information.... Angry
