All this to do about the new gold Phantom...

But, what about the software?

They still have not fixed the crackling sound when using the optical input in the Dialogue.

Yeah I was thinking the same. It gives me a little mobile phone feeling. Every year a new model and no investment in improving software of the "old" model. Hope thats not the case...

+1. And another hardware model to support adds complexity to the soft/firmware, which already has serious quality issues

Completely agree.  I really don't understand their business model of hardware innovation at the expense of software.  I can accept a somewhat basic interface but not the faulty code that is responsible for the network issues.  Overall I am still glad I purchased but I no longer recommend these  because most people I know don't have the patience to figure things out like 'optical in' only works properly if you use one of the phantoms rather than the dialog.  Or that if you have a decent size network with a lot of devices attached you may have problems and need to set up a 'sub network' using apple products....or re-boot dialog every once in a while.   How long has it been since the last software update?  We'll probably see Platinum or Diamond Phantoms next summer before they sort out the software.

What do you mean with your 'optical in' statement? Is it better not to use the Dialogue toslink? Why?

A frequent problem is random noise on the optical input on the Dialog. It appeared with the latest firmware update.

+1
...now I also got the static sound* that users have been talking about when using Toslink input via Spark
* It sounds like a scratched old vinyl record but I do listen to song that that sometimes have that fake vinyl sound...now I do have it on all songs.
Funny thing most people would not notice the static noise...and yes they are mostly the same people who think I'm crazy to buy speakers for similar cost as a decent used car....but I then tell them I already have a car ( just to bust their balls a bit more)

i also have the static noise since this weekend Sad It's rather annoying. It suddenly appeared, never had it before.

It's Devialet's speciality. I imagine it's what they'll be remembered for in years to come - groundbreaking products with a unique crackling noise that, despite years of trying, their engineers were never able to fix.
