As most of you here are fans of the phantom, I should've already predicted the answer. But for the benefit of doubt, how many of you if given a chance, would rather go the traditional route?

If I had unlimited funding I would definitely go the traditional route.(Un)fortunately I have not, so I'll stick with the Phantom. Pricewise it's a steal Smile

I also run TDL reference standards and Magneplanar 1.7. The TDL's wipe the floor in almost all departments including bass. The Magneplanar just give a soundstage and delicacy that the Phantoms cannot match. However what the Phantoms do for the size is incredible and they are listened to more due to convenience.

I sold my expert D200 for 2 Gold phantoms ... I wanted a system plug and play.

RE: Phantom vs XXX - Mr_Bill - 04-Sep-2016

Olivier, what speakers were you using with your Dev 200?

RE: Phantom vs XXX - Olivier4444 - 04-Sep-2016

@Mr_Bill, my speakers were Victoria Evos from Waterfall

The D200 sounded incredibly good !!! but whenever I used it for TV... it was a pain to have to switch sources manually on the remote (not auto sensing like the Phantoms).

If I had to do a direct/short cut comparison I would say the D200 is superior in sound in Highs and probably mediums... But even if I lost 10% of audio quality (although Hi Res or Tidal music sound really really good on Phantoms) , I find the Phantoms a lot more convenient for every day use... Oh and movies do sound better on Phantoms. Honestly I don't regret my move switching to Phantoms.

Hello Olivier4444,

There is a possebility to use a devialet app on your smartphone and that is very easy to switch from source to source, visualy also.

Yes David you are absolutely right ! but then again that means once you turn on your TV you have to :
1) get your phone and type in your password
2) Open the remote app and change the source
With Phantoms TV is automatically detected - there's nothing to do
Of course the same applies when go back from to music
When you switch a couple times a day every day it gets annoying ... but that's just my opinion !
Simple is beautiful ;-)

RE: Phantom vs XXX - Nl88 - 04-Sep-2016

Thank u all for the replies !

My current gear:
DynAudio Dm2/7
Naim Nail 5i
Oppo BDP105D
Apple TV

I find myself listening to Spotify a lot and I end up having to turn on my AppleTV, turn on my Oppo because I use it as a receiver, switch to rear HDMI source, then turn on my Naim in order to listen to my music which is really a pain.

Hence, I was actually thinking of going for the Denon Heos Amp and just hooking it up to my DynAudio Dm2/7.

Seeing how the phantom outperforms most of your expensive speakers, I'm guessing it would definitely outperform my entry level DynAudio DM2/7 with a Denon Heos Amp for sure ? If so, then I'll probably bite the bullet and get the pair of phantoms ? Big Grin
