Yes ! No SAM for ML bass active !!!

RE: New speakers SAM ready - Jwg1749 - 23-Sep-2014

Yes, that makes sense. Anyway, good that ML are now on the SAM list.

Martin Logan Electromotions just added as well today.

Looks like Linn Akurate 242s added today as well. Why those and not the Olympica II which I would have thought far more popular with Devialet (thus pointing out the bizarre voting system!!)

It seems to partly depend on what speakers they can get from distributors and manufacturers; I believe in some instances they are borrowing speakers directly from customers.

You are 100% right.

Surely Absolute Sounds could loan them a pair of each model!! Devialet/Sonus Faber seems to be amongst the most common setups in the UK dealer network (hardly surprising since it's the same distributor). Also Spendor demo the D7 at shows with the Devialet, you'd think that would be quite easy to do too......It's all very strange, I really haven't heard of about 30-40% of the speakers they have SAM'ed even though I've been treading the audiophile path for (gulp) 25 years!

Have to say I didn't think they'd make it, so am really pleased. Sorry Neffa - I share your frustration! Have now enabled this and will report back.

Hi Guillaume and others .... Of course, full report on the way Smile Initial views are very positive, but I've only listened to it for a few hours. Anyway, here's my current thinking:
1. Bass response is much improved - tighter and more present than non-SAM. The Akurates aren't the most impressive speakers for bass (I bought them for their amazing midrange -they sound really breathtaking with female vocals). SAM has now inserted what was effectively non-existent bass.
2. More surprising is just how much better the midrange sounds also - some recordings (Doris Day, Donovan) had sounded slightly sibilant at fairly hugh volume - this has now been more or less eradicated. As a result, the music sounds more 'relaxed", whilst not losing any detail.
3. Overall, the soundstage seems to have expanded in all directions, and placement of vocalists and musicians seems more focused.

For a free upgrade, it's astounding. I really feel that I don't need to spend any more money on hi-fi unti something (or me) breaks down ....

For any prospective Devialet purchasers, buying a non-SAM speaker should be approached very cautiously.
