DAC inside the D200 - Devialetuser - 27-Jan-2017

I have recently moved to a Pre/Power combo (class A/B amplification).

And now have been comparing the DAC inside the D200 and my Pioneer N50A. To be honest I am having a hard time telling them apart. Currently I am only interested in using the D200 as a DAC. But I am wondering if that really makes any sense? One would think that the DAC inside the D200 should sound far superior to the Pioneer N50A, but that is really not the case.

Would the D400 used just as a DAC sound better than the D200? Would separating the right and left channel Pre-Out between the two units make a significant difference, kind of like a dual-mono DAC. Or only the DAC inside the Master unit is would be used in the D400 case?

There was a very similar topic to this recently, see link below.  In summary, the Devialet DAC is integral to the 'ADH' core, and you cannot get the benefit of this via pre-out to another amp.
