Guarneri Tradition and Devialet - BoyScout - 27-Apr-2017
I´m quite disappointed with my brand news Sonus Faber Olympica lll.
There´s a lot foggy bass, according the dealer is the medium-bass interacting badly with the room and my room is acoustically treated. I tried everything, all the possible positioning, different cables and all you can´t imagine, the result allways the same: each music with more extensive bass is a pain in the... ears.
I came from a pair of old Extrema, before the SF O lll, a very balanced speaker IMO.
I´m cosidering to try the new SF Guarnery Tradition with the 220 Pro resident.
If someone knows something about it, please let me know.

Sorry to hear that! I owned sf venere2.5 with my dev200 not so long, and, eventhough it looked awesome, and sounded sweet, the bass domain was in my opinion weak sometimes.I decided to go for the best one lifetime upgrade.
I compared with dev 200 sf guarnieri and sabrina from W.A.(A/B comparaison).
I ended up with sabrina.
Head and shoulders better than guarnieri, specially bass extension definition .

I made a test at the dealer with the Sabrinas and liked a lot but now i´m affraid of floor- standing speakers, because i liked the SF too and they sound strange here at home.
i´ll keep trying and collecting opinions from our fellows.

How big is Your room? OIII is known because of its heavy bass. You Need at least two Devialet's to control it. SF are really hard to drive properly. So, try 440 with it and try to use it with Sam Off and On. You need at least 1 metre free space around each loudspeaker.

Do the SF Olympica III's have a difficult impedance curve? I don't understand this stuff very well, but the GamuT Phi 5 mkii's I had previously had impedance curves that were far from even and also had some wild peaks and valleys. That (as it was explained to me) makes life hard for an amp, and the Devialet, or digital amps generally, have a hard time with that sort of speaker load.
I also agree that room acoustics make a big difference, especially in terms of bass bloat, but it seems that you have already looked into that.
I hope you get it sorted; being disappointed with new speakers (especially the expensive and beautiful variety) is a hard thing to get over.

Is a 40sm room, more or less. And i "walked" with the speakers around without positive results.
There´s a lot of people very happy with this duet, 220PRO/SF O lll, according the dealer and other fellows here in Devialetchat.
I´m not sure that´s a sub amp problem.

I have the Olympica II and quiet a large room and the bass is more than enough so I can image the III could be bass heavy. Have you tried to switch them as the bass port is radiating only to one side and not the back? This makes a huge difference.
I have quiet a hard room with wooden floor. Two weeks ago I started experimenting with acoustic treatment and am really amazed by the effect and that we do sometimes not justify our expensive systems. My simple try-out was to put my large (full height of the Olympica II) couch pillows on the wall right near the Olympicas. Result was a very controlled bass and much more detail as apparently reflections were causing obfuscations of details. My next step is buying acoustic treatment which is living room friendly but I can never go back without it now I have heard what the difference it makes. You can give it a try.... the speaker may not be the problem but the acoustic laws are. Either change speaker position or do some treatment I'd suggest

I have listened to the d200 with Guarneri homage. It surpassed all other previous amps, (arc ref 110, arc ref 210 monos, graaf gm200 otl)
I later upgraded to a d400 then d440 and today I am very satisfied with a d1000. My room is 12x18
The Guarneri is a very special speaker.

did you not try the speakers in your room? Sounds like a lot of money to spend without knowing if they will work. Before changing speakers, how about putting in a DSP unit to tame the bass? Would be a lot cheaper than changing, unless the dealer will give you your money back.
