DSP features on new Weiss DAC - GuillaumeB - 28-Apr-2017 I thought this was interesting since it shows some of the (fun) stuff that can be done with DSP and in a way highlights how little new stuff we have had from Devialet lately (well since May 2015): http://www.weiss.ch/products/dac501-dac502 You have to scroll down to "main Features":
The following DSP algorithms are considered for implementation:
Guillaume RE: DSP features on new Weiss DAC - Pim - 28-Apr-2017 That's an amazing list. Too much to play with for my liking but I can see the appeal of having the potential to use some of them. RE: DSP features on new Weiss DAC - petrik - 28-Apr-2017 That's impressive. It would be fun to try many of those features. I don't know how useful all of those would be, but at least it would be fun to try. I really would like to have the digital room correction... (and of course Roon) I can already create awesome FIR filters in Acourate, but it would be great to use these with others inputs of Devialet as well (like turntable, AV, etc). RE: DSP features on new Weiss DAC - Rodney Gold - 03-May-2017 Just a simple 3 or 4 band parametric in the Devialet is easily achievable and vastly powerful to cure bass or tonality problems A convolution engine would be nice.. the rest are mere fripperies The big problem with devialet is its SD card config .. unless the parametric etc can be adjusted on the fly , its useless , a major schlep to reconfigure the amp every time you want to change things RE: DSP features on new Weiss DAC - petrik - 03-May-2017 (03-May-2017, 09:11)Rodney Gold Wrote: Just a simple 3 or 4 band parametric in the Devialet is easily achievable and vastly powerful to cure bass or tonality problems I would say that the convolution engine would probably be the best option from sound quality perspective. Parametric eq would be ok, but I have got better results with convolution. I totally agree with you regarding the SD card... I gave up even trying to set the measly bass and treble parameters. Now I get far better results in Roon, but the advantage of having it in the amp would be it was enabled on all inputs. But agree with Rodney, unless it's a good setup interface, it would be pretty useless. But would like to see some more Weiss-like features. Sure they might not all be to everyone's tastes, but why not? The Devialet's are powerful DSP systems at their core, but offer very little of that to the user in terms of sound preferences - other than SAM. |
