I'd love to run Roon, but I don't want my Mac, which is upstairs, to be running. So what is the most effective and cheapest way of running Roon on my system?

If I did have to use the Mac, and install Roon core on it, could I still have the QNAP NAS running into my Mutec, or does  the audio have to be rooted through the Mac? Please bear in mind that everything on my LAN is connected by Ethernet cable.

Axel - you are probably aware of the fact that one can run RoonServer on a NAS. I did it briefly last year on my Synology 1812+ NAS which has 3GB of memory. It played back music fine, however using search on my laptop or iPad was a little pokey. As you noted it really depends on the horsepower of your NAS.

Cool  These little things can make a big difference. Shy

I did suggest a while back the idea of still displaying the Devialet volume even if volume control from Roon is disabled - as a convenience feature. I think there was some resistance in the sense that Roon felt if there were genuine reasons for wanting to disable their volume control, then they'd rather address that and keep everything consistent (no other devices display volume levels when volume's disabled).

I hope the volume gets a redesign. I'd love to use it but just don't think it's safe as-is on the Devialet.

That said right now I'm following in your footsteps (bit slower these days with little time) I comparing a few inputs to see what sounds best and is most convenient. So far they all seem pretty close to be honest, but not identical. I think if I could group the RoonAIR zone I'd just leave it at that, but since I can't the digiOne will get a good workout. Really enjoying it (the replacement board) at the moment.....

Unfortunately, my NAS has a nice quad core processor but only 2GB of ram, which I think is used for the library info. I've got quite a large digital collection, so sadly it's out of the question. I chose the QNAP HS251 because it's fanless and silent and don't really want to change it. I think I'll wait and see what the streamer board brings, then change my hardware to suit.

I have to say I agree with you. That would not be a satisfactory solution.

If you're not going to use it anymore, or there are issues,  then it makes sense to remove it I suppose.

I still have my air app on the Mac, have only disabled it.  You shouldn't need to remove it completely.  But with the current functionality I may eventually remove it.

This is simply amazing.
I never could get Air to work properly over both ethernet and wifi. Now it is just effortless over wifi.
Great job Roon and Devialet.

So so happy with how this sounds. MUCH more open, dynamic and resolving than Roon controlling a Sonore Micro Rendu (now for sale here).

One bit of help - I can see the volume slider on my iPhone, but it does nothing when moved. I can't see/find it at all on my Nexus 7. The Roon apps and all else is up to date, and I have Devialet 120.

Any ideas? Thanks, and congrats to Roon and Devialet on this collaboration.

Got everything up and running and it sounds great. I just have one small issue...

I can get Roon to turn on the Devialet, but it does not select the right input, ethernet for in my case. In my config I have the Devialet set to always come on with the AV line input selected for the front channels of my Surround Sound, so I suspect this may be what is causing it?

Thoughts?

Have you renamed the Ethernet input in config?

If so, it doesn't work.  Roon are trying to see if they can sort it out, in the meantime you can change the input name back to the default one.

If you haven't changed it, then I don't know.  If so, I would suggest sorting a thread on the Roon forum so one of their team can pick it up.

I have! To Roon... So that is probably it!

Thanks, will switch it back and try again Smile
