RE: MELCO - GuillaumeB - 23-Mar-2015 Hoping to get my hands on some units soon... will keep you all posted. We still have a lot of things to test! I have to say I'm finding it very difficult to forget the sound of the N1Z. Evening chaps - quick note on TIDAL - happy to confirm that an Android Tablet with a TIDAL account open and running BubbleUPnP and set as a control point to the Melco will give excellent TIDAL rendering. The results are quite astonishing in some cases. Easy to try if you have the necessary bits and bobs. Happy to furnish details if need be. As an aside V2.00 FW is now officially on the Internet for front panel internet update of Melco - gives direct download from HighResAudio.com with full file verification. Full V2.00 user documentation is on the Melco-audio.com site as well. You couldn't tell Devialet to join the chat too, perhaps? I'm sure we'd buy you a very large Easter egg if you succeeded. Hi Alan, sounds like very promising products from Melco, although there is no dealer in the Far East yet. There is quite a gap in price and performance between the N1A and N1Z models. Are there plans for a mid range model say, a N1N (midway between A to Z ), which could essentially be the N1Z without the 2 x 512 GB SSDs? Since the SSDs are reputed to cost about USD1,000 each, doing away with them may result in the performance of the N1Z coming within reach of those whose budget can only accommodate the N1A but may be prepared to stretch it a bit further if there was a N1A Plus model with the dual power supplies of the N1Z. To keeps the costs in tow, the existing N1A case could be used. On another note, the N1A/N1Z were initially designed to be a NAS. Now that there is a network player function built-in, would there be plans in future to include either S/PDIF or AES/EBU outputs to accommodate DACs or Devialets, which are supposed to sound better using the AES/EBU input? Thanks. Totaldac or n1a? RE: MELCO - mauidan - 15-Apr-2015 Guillaume, Have you ever tried the Bryston BDP-2? RE: MELCO - Harry. - 16-Apr-2015 I heard the N1A this week but unfortunately not with a Devialet. Difficult to assess therefore in SQ terms. There is a new app and apparently updates come thick and fast! Is this the time to take the plunge or maybe wait six months a to see what else develops? I checked with Guillaume, and he hasn't tried the Bryston units. It would be interesting to see how the Brystons compare to these big ticket file servers. They are built very well. The BDP-2 can handle many hard drives. |
