RE: MELCO - Rufus McDufus - 14-Aug-2016 I can't remember if this problem has been mentioned before (can't see it in this thread). It's one of those things that bugs me but I completely forget to research a fix for it. I have my Melco connected via USB to the Devialet and use a UPNP control point, typically Kinsky but sometimes something else. The problem I find is when the Devialet goes to sleep and I wake it again, the Melco UPNP device does not appear in Kinsky (or other control points). Quitting/restarting the control point doesn't help. I find I need to reboot the Melco, which of course is a major pain because then Twonky does its stupid trash the database and rescan again which takes about 20 minutes with the amount of music I have. Is this issue well-known? Wondering if anyone else has come across it. It's not recent - always done it for me. RE: MELCO - Filip_B1d - 14-Aug-2016 Has anyone: 1. Compared Melco N1A and N1ZH, is there any SQ reason to buy the more expensive model? 2. Compared Melco performance via USB vs Ethernet connection on Devialet? MELCO - nicoludio - 14-Aug-2016 It happens to me as well. Not every time, but usually when I leave the DAC (AG Zero) on standby for a while with the Melco on. Most times, restarting the DAC and reselecting the USB input works. Other times, I have to reboot the Melco. I am using MinimServer. With the Lumin or Kinsky app, no rescan is required. I have actually been using Twonky recently even though I don't like the way it presents the library. If I use Minimserver I tend to 'disable' Twonky by removing the directories it scans (you can access the Twonky settings at http://yourmelcoaddress:9050). There is a command line flag for the Twonky server to disable the startup rescan but of course we can't get to it on the Melco RE: MELCO - Fla7a - 14-Aug-2016 Ah ok, thanks for the info! Will try it, when I finally manage to install Minim. MELCO - nicoludio - 14-Aug-2016 Rufus, would you be able to share why you use Twonky over MinimServer? Twonky is a bit cumbersome in that album art has to be saved as a jpeg file and added to the album folder. When I transferred my library from a Synology NAS to the Melco, quite a fair bit of my album art was "missing" even though I have used Doug's Script to embed the album art. Installing MinimServer solved the issue - phew MELCO - nicoludio - 14-Aug-2016 (14-Aug-2016, 12:24)Rufus McDufus Wrote: Twonky does do the rescan regardless. Another Melco owner has posted that Twonky cannot be disabled even when using MinimServer - they both run in parallel. Your "hack" could perhaps reduce Twonky's demands wrt CPU processing. Food for thought. RE: MELCO - Confused - 14-Aug-2016 (14-Aug-2016, 12:07)Filip_B1d Wrote: Has anyone: 1. Almost certainly, yes. If you read this thread from the beginning there is a comparison of the sound quality difference between the N1A and the N1Z, and the N1Z come out on top, as you might expect. I had a very quick listen to the N1Z vs the N1ZH. To be clear, this was a one track back to back test so hardly definitive, but the conclusion was that the N1ZH was marginally better, by an absolute fraction, maybe. They were certainly close! So I am guessing the difference to the N1A will remain similar. For a more definitive answer to that written on this forum, I think you would need to listen for yourself. 2. I do not think it is possible to run a Melco direct via Ethernet. To do this you would need to load the AIR software onto the Melco, and AIR is only available as Mac and Windows software. You'll think I'm mad but I have a hunch it sounds a tiny bit better! And this is really painful because I really do not like Twonky in how it treats the Artist vs Album Artist tags, how you can't present artists in alphabetical order by disregarding 'the' etc. and quite a few other reasons. |
