Roon - AIR integration: Where does Dirac go? - Mohmm - 16-Jul-2017

I am using Dirac DRC in my set up to tame room modes and reflections. Presently it is

Roon > Dirac > AIR > Dev1000Pro

If we now have Roon-AIR integration, where would one fit room correction now? Any ideas?

It is so unpleasant to see all these music apps being integrated and specialising more and more and breaking existing set-ups instead of each application working well on its own. The same with Roon's recent ROCK OS that makes me scratch my head thinking where to fit in Dirac? Integration seriously restricts flexibity.

Any ideas?

You can't fit Dirac into either setup you mention. But it doesn't break what you already have Wink
If you like it stick with it. If you really want ROCK or Roons AIR, you'll have to swap Dirac for convolution filters made by something else like Acourate - for now at least......

Thanks.

That's what I suspected. Swapping Dirac is not an option as it works impeccably.

Can you use the EQ in Roon?

Dirac's not only about equalizing, but also about impulse control.

Acourate can do the impulse correction as well. Just thought to say if you sometime want to give it a try.

Besides Dirac and Acourate, you can obtain superb correction impulses, with all the appropriate properties you are aiming at (minimum phase system for instance) using two free tools: REW and rePhase.

I have written a short howto and shared it here: https://devialetchat.com/showthread.php?tid=4180&pid=62886#pid62886

It just requires more time and more work, but gives you total control about what you are doing with your corrections.

Feel free to ask questions if you are interested.

Thank you for this how-to guide!  Smile  I am really interested in this and definitely would like to try. The how-to guide just looks quite complicated... I am not sure can I follow each step correctly.

Moreover, my antivirus software thinks that rePhase is/contains a virus. I am not sure do I have courage to use it.

The howto covers a sophisticated way to make measurements in order to avoid overcorrecting from one single measurement.

In case you want to start with these free tools, you can make one measurement with REW. I can guide you from this measurement in the way to obtain a correction impulse.

As far as viruses in rePhase, I have never had any problem. This is the official download site: https://sourceforge.net/projects/rephase/

SwissBear

Downloaded REW 5.19 Beta6, but only after downloading rePhase did I then notice it's only for Windows, not Mac - bummer  Sad
