Greg

Only Markhus has told us how his CI upgrade sounds, and he thought fantastic.

So how does you Pro sound with the CI upgrade, appreciate if you could post your thoughts in the thread Listening Impressions
Sorry, I’ve not yet had my Expert Pro back. It’s still in the factory. I was referring to the turn around when the first stage of the Pro upgrade was carried out.

Well, 43 pages and I think it's fair to come to the conclusion that Devialet have shot themselves in the foot (again) They announced the CI board for 2017 because you simply can't sell an upgrade to Pro if you tell your customers they will get the streamer board they are paying for will be delivered sometime in 2018. To keep their promise they're 'delivering' the board 'on time' but nowhere near ready

They shouldn't have included the CI board in the upgrade to Pro. That way it's a future upgrade that they could bring out when it's ready. People will read about how good it is and open their wallets for the upgrade. Now it's just another long wait for when (and dare I say if?) the board will work.

Waiting for the Core Infinity board to work: Bore Infinity!

Such a shame.

My amps arrived at Devialet on Monday and were signed for by someone called Homer....

Nearly two weeks without my 250 Pro and it's killing me. On the Devialet website, the status is reading "to_prepare". I hope they get that thing back to me soon!

I regret wrong on so many counts.

I bought a Le 250 ex-demo in December 2016 and immediately purchased the Pro upgrade - the unit went straight back to Devialet from the main dealer after I paid for it.

I bought it based on it's performance at that point - I compared the Le 250 to a Pro version at the dealer. The CI board upgrade was an added incentive because it was being offered at no extra cost. I was told second half of 2017 but I wasn't born yesterday and fully expected it could take twice as long. As it happens I will have it in 2017. If I had been told I would have to pay an additional €1,300 when the new board came out, I might not have bought Devialet at all.

I am reassured verbally by Devialet that in mid December when I get the unit the software will be ready. It will have bugs because software invariably does, whether from MS, Apple, or whoever. May favourite app is Auralic Lightning DS, it has bugs, but they sort them out quick enough.

The current Air card is no more than a network card. CI is full-blown streaming hardware. There is a massive difference between the two. I've had streaming units from Linn, Naim and Auralic and anyone who has knows that it takes time to add functionality and keep it stable. Those platforms have developed over years. To expect Devialet to release multi-functional streaming hardware/software that is perfect form Day 1 is totally unrealistic and would probably be a first for the audio industry. I would expect it to take 6 months and will continue to use my Auralic streamer until the new kit has stabilised.

+1

The main driver of upgrading to Pro (or buying it directly) should be the sound quality. Also for me the CI board is a nice plus. I hope it will sound great and come with a lot of functionality. And if not... then the search for a dedicated hardware box will start.

And for the bugs... they will be there indeed. It seems that users owning Devialet for some time have lost patience. Main reason seems to be the incapability of Devialet to solve the bugs. I can understand that this is idd frustrating. Bugs will always be there but it should be a priority of the vendor to solve them and be customer oriented.

Wdw,
So sorry to hear of this crazy delivery schmozzle. I feel slightly guilty for having had a near-magical aller et retour.... I don't know why they don't return the amps, with a large cheery card explaining the temporary lack of functions. They could also suggest work-arounds to help their customers. Or include a free hi rez album download by way of compensation- something to help with the transition.

I think many owners can accept the difficulty of predicting precisely when hardware or software will be perfect, but we all feel better and more accommodating when we feel that we are informed, reliably informed, about the state of things.

Relax guys, this is just an amp and living a few weeks without music should be manageable.

I am personally of the opinion that innovation is the core DNA of Devialet and no other high end audio brand is coming even close to being in the same ball park when you consider the full picture including sound quality, ease of use, integration with the quickly evolving eco-system, the support of present and future technologies, looks, compactness,...

At a very reasonnable price point.

Innovation takes time. They are doing their best to provide accurate forecasts but we all know that complex software needs time to converge.

Cheers,
Bernard

No one is denying the superiority of Devialet products as evidenced by the fairly large amounts of money that has been outlayed for their products nor are we, I assume, faulting the true innovation of their output.
If they would simply have recalled the Pro series for the upgrade AFTER the initial softwar issues were resolved it would have served us all far better.
