Devialet's newest technology...? - invader - 17-Nov-2014

On facebook 1 hour ago Devialet announced a new technology. It says:
"We captured Pierre-Emmanuel Calmel's moment of emotion as he was listening to Devialet's newest technology for the first time. Stay tuned..."
Exciting times! Smile What could it be?

Question for me is will it be something new that will appeal to us here or the general mass population (as in for example a cheaper, miniaturized amplifier product, either standalone or for integration)?

Either way it will be interesting and either in an exciting or disappointing way! Wink

I'm guessing either dlna/upnp or DSD. I've been told DSD is on the way and I believe DLNA was discussed by Devialet in a recent store demo. I'm hoping for DLNA so that I can eliminate one more box from my setup.

I doubt it's hardware related but you never know.

I'm hoping for UPnP/DLNA too but I'm not expecting it to sound much different, hence I wouldn't be particularly emotional - unless their emotions reflect the difficulty they've experience implementing it!

DSD and uPnP/DLNA aren't Devialet technologies, at best they can be implemented by Devialet but they are not the inventors and it's not new technology.

But perhaps I'm taking this teaser message too literally. Wink

Oh, I did read a recent rumour here: http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f8-general-forum/all-one-then-be-done-22391/#post366275

Quote:Acc'd to the dealer I worked with, they are about to add DSD support; and will be further increasing the power output through future firmware updates.

I know for a fact that they are very close to adding DSD support. More power would also be highly appreciated Smile

DLNA won't happen btw so don't hold your breath for that.

What makes you say that? I'm hoping for some sort of integrated music streaming platform that incorporates remote control of the Devialet. It would be great to control the streamer and devialet from the same app a la the Auralic Aries and Lumin S1.

I guess it doesn't need to be dlna. MPD would work too. I'm not sure how much processing power is left unused on the Devialet at this point though.

Heard it from Thierry, it didn't sound like something they would even consider.

Interesting. Devialet had a job posting that included DLNA development in the job description. I wonder if they tried it and were not happy with the sonic results.

I would settle for Air on a NAS and an app to control it. I just want to get rid of the computer and use a single app to control the entire experience.

A single source for Qobuz, TIDAL (WiMP), DSD, iRadio and FLAC/WAV/AIFF controlled by a single control app (including volume) would be great.
