I fully agree that Aurender sounds better. I always raved about how it sounds warm and relaxed yet detailed. But that is of course for the direct USB connection to my D400. The thing that puzzled me is how Roon on Aurender Airplay sounds better than Roon / Air! Among the many valuable answers I got here from other members, one talks about the importance of implementation, so while Airplay is limited only to high quality and not lossless, it seems that Aurender implementation is done in a way that enhances how it sounds. For now I will have to live with this assumption and accept it. Moving forward the plan is to get my hands on a dedicated roon server/player (Zenith or Nucleus) and see how they play in my system. But in all cases, I belive Aurneder is a keeper at least for now. I also quickly discovered why so much has been written about its integration problems with Devialet Expert Pro CI. You think: wow. And then it drops out or stutters. When I got my Devialet 2 years ago, the dealer said: Don't bother with AIR. Get a Linn Sneaky renderer, and use the digital output. It just works. And it did, hard wired (Ethernet) to my network / Synology NAS. Now, my 1000 Pro has been upgraded to CI, and when I tried Roon, I plugged the Ethernet straight into the back (excluding the renderer). It works, but drops out, especially at higher rates. So, having spent hours reading through months of others' similar woes, I was wondering: Could anyone who has a hard wired connection (Ethernet or USB) of Expert Pro with CI to Roon, with a completely stable connection at any speed, and truly happy with what it sounds like, let me know how they got there? I say hard wired, as my setup makes wifi not really a viable option. (I am currently constructing a NUC to act as Roon Core, so happy to have that in the system; just used my PC temporarily to try out what it what it was like). Thanks for any good ideas! RE: Roon - the next step? - baddog - 04-May-2018 I am using a hard wired ethernet connection with no issues, no drop outs. Roon running on a Intel NUC which is connected via ethernet to switch. Devialet with ethernet connection to switch. When I use my NAS which has a larger music library that too is connected via ethernet to switch. Is your ethernet connection straight from PC to Devialet? Or do you have a switch or router your are using? What version of the firmware are you using? I have no issues with DSD64, 24/192, 24/96 or redbook files. Let us know so we can try and assist. I’m using a wired Ethernet connection via a talk talk ADSL router/switch. I have Roon core running on a Linux based Vortexbox Dell server. I have never had any problems with dropouts with Roon before or after the CI upgrade. I’d suspect there is some issue with your network. Beta 12 (RC3) and can play everything up to 24/96, 24/192 has a known issue with this beta version. I have roonserver installed on my QNAP NAS which is connected directly to the 220, no switch, via ethernet port 2. Ethernet Port 1 is connected to the wireless router/modem to stream TIDAL and allow remote control of roon via various devices. Its very neat and the direct connection does make a noticeable improvement IMHO. https://devialetchat.com/showthread.php?tid=5072&pid=74213#pid74213 RE: Roon - the next step? - ghubregtse - 05-May-2018 Thanks guys, that is really helpful. I have my SSD for the NUC arriving hopefully today. I will try to get it all up and running this weekend, with a switch, and report back... RE: Roon - the next step? - cereal killer - 05-May-2018 Try make a direct connection, it's worth the extra head scratching RE: Roon - the next step? - cereal killer - 05-May-2018 Just updated to Beta 14, 24/192 is back and working beautifully !! RE: Roon - the next step? - ghubregtse - 08-May-2018 NUC with ROCK now constructed and it works a treat! Just need to have a look at the Beta versions for the Devialet now... RE: Roon - the next step? - baddog - 08-May-2018 @ghubregtse I have been using ROCK on my Intel NUC for ages now. It has been super reliable, trouble-free, and I don't have to worry about system updates causing my system to degrade or otherwise perform badly. It truly is set and forget. |
