Best TT packagr for 7,500 US$? - bernardl - 25-Mar-2018

Dear Devialet users,

I am finally considering investing in a high quality TT and have a budget of max 7,500 US$ for the full set.

I was wondering what you guys would recommend as an all rounder.

I listen to anything ranging from trip hop to jazz and classical.

For now I am considering a Clearaudio performance DC with a good MC cartridge. Would there be better options for the money?

Thank you.

Cheers,
Bernard

Thanks but there seems to be no info available in English at all.

I can read Japanese pretty well but too little mandarin to buy confidently. Besides I am concerned about support in case something goes wrong.

Cheers,
Bernard

A good all rounder? This one is well worth checking out, is there any chance of you getting a demo where you are? I've used mine to play jazz and it is excellent, but of all the TT's I have listened to in this price bracket, nothing can pull out a trip hop bass line like the Signature!

Hi, I spent 30 years with Linn LP 12 in various stages of development. Never had problems or anything else. Should I decide again for a turntables, it would be a Linn LP 12 again! Angel

The only TT maker with the resource to make state of the art direct drive motors these days is Technics.
Belt drive is compromised but most makers have no choice because they have to buy the motors available to them. Having written that I do use a belt drive myself mainly, but it is an old one from before a good direct drive motor was available.
This is a good turntable from a specialist IME, this page is the UK distributor.

I would buy one of these if it was my money.

Technics SL-1200G has received many positive reviews, at £3000 for turntable and tonearm looks like a bargain. Extensively reviewed by Michael Fremer who has a couple of YouTube videos comparing it to its Continuum Audio Labs Caliburn turntable ($65,000). With a pair of good headphones you can get an idea of what the Technics is capable of, link below.

Thank you all for your kind answers.

After a lot of reading it appears that the Technics may be by far the best bang for the bucks. Plus, being based in Japan I know I will benefit from excellent support.

The only question left is the choice of the cartridge. Any advice?

Cheers,
Bernard
