Best turntables - Giubeca - 22-Nov-2019

Hallo,
Being very satisfied by my Devialet expert 140 pro, I’ m guessing what are the best turntables to connect.
I’m open to any suggestion: new models and vintage ones. I think a reasonable budget, compared to the amplifier could be 2500 €/USD.

A Linn LP 12 is a no brainer!

Rega Planar 6 Neo with Excalubur Red is a great combo with the Dev 140 - 1800 Euro!

No hiss with this MC cartridge?

It’s a high output mc - good value, it’s the brother from black / low output

If you want high build quality at a very very reasonable price, check out https://sam-audio.eu/

These TTs are handmade, sold directly from the manufacturer, can accept up to 4 tone arms. Exceptional build quality and sound for the price, can be compared (and win) against TTs 4-5x price. Do not come with a cartridge. Lifetime warranty (unless the company dies, but they've been around for 20+ years).
Even the most basic and the cheapest model is already an entry level high end piece of machinery.
In your price range you could go above the base model.

I've done a lot of combinations and research and decided to give them a go. Will be ordering in a couple of weeks (waiting to move in to bigger place, and that is a bulky and sensitive item to move).

Best regards, Milan

I'd also look at the Dynavector DV-10x5 mk ll. Shibata stylus high output MC. Should work very well with a Planar 6.

EDIT: ahh, old thread. I guess the OP  @Giubeca has already bought his turntable.

Clearaudio, Technics,...

Cheers,

The Technics SL-1500C is very nice. I don't like the looks of the 1200 much. SL-1000R is much nicer, but the price... (although I owned the original SL-1000 many years ago). If there was a mod for the headshell bayonet - a proprietary headshell mounted directly on the arm tube, the new 1500C would be really great.

Probably the best bang for buck is the Rega P8.

I currently run two tonearms, one is medium output SoundSmith Zephyr Mk2, the other is a low output Koetsu Urushi that I run through an external phono amplifier.

As a starter in the vinyl game, I would avoid low output cartridges as I understand the 140 has a slimmed down phono stage. Perhaps a P6 and Exact MM would be a good starting point, or end point.
