Sampling rate for digital inputs of D400 - miro - 05-Jan-2015

Hi,

I have been a D400 user for about a month now.
Still doing the burn in, and optimizing the setup.

I noticed that the default sampling rate for all digital inputs of the master in the D400 is 96 kHz.
That means that hi-res files that are 176 kHz or 192 kHz will get downsampled.

Have you guys changed that sampling rate to 192 kHz, and what are your observations in terms of effect on the sound?

Thank you!

Nope, the digital inputs accept any sampling rate up to 192/24. You're confusing the analog inputs for which you can select if it's digitized using a sampling rate of 96kHz or 192kHz (shared setting for all analog inputs).

You are correct.

So, what sampling rate are you using for the analog inputs?

Devialet recommends 24/96, they are the experts so I follow their advice.

24/192 for line input and 24/96 for phono. Although when using the line input it was for a DAC with up to DSD128 capability.

I recall in the dim distant days of last year when I had my Linn KDS/1 attached 24/96 sounded quite a bit better than 24/192. I haven't tried different sample rates with my Rega RP6 turntable, but left it on 24/96.

I also once had a KDS connected to my Devialet. 24/96 was considerably better.

Can you use different numbers for the different analog inputs?
I thought that once you enter a number, then it is applied to all analog inputs.

You are right, it's one setting for all analogue inputs.

I run my vinyl on 24/192 and that sounds better to me, my dealer and some other hifi buffs. Background noise is in my system the same from both settings.
