phono stage - hansweer - 11-Oct-2020

Hello everybody , i have problems with the phono stage of mine devialet 400.
the problem is that the sound is terrible. When i turn on the phono stage you can hear a hard hiss of sound , is this normal?greetings hans

I would say that everything below 1mV produces a lot of hum. If you are using a low output mc, perhaps you should use a stepup transformer?

Did you check, if you have WiFi activated on your 400 that in the settings of the photo input you have selected ‘Auto WiFi Standby’?

I don’t know if it is your problem, but WiFi is known to sometimes send noise into the phono inputs, hence the option.

Cheers and best of luck to find the solution,

Jean-Marie

It seems a little strange. I have 2.1mV and the phono stage is very quiet. What are your settings?

I use an Ortofon Quitet Black (0.3mV) and the hiss level is quite acceptable.

Have you been in to RAM, via the remote, and tried experimenting?

What happens when you disconnect the phono leads from the TT? The stage should be very quiet with MM.

RE: phono stage - Jean-Marie - 12-Oct-2020

Like @Soniclife is proposing, I would recommend to progress step by step:
1) Is the phono entry noisy when nothing is connected to it?
2) Is it noisy when only the cable is connected to it?
3) Is it noisy when it is connected to the turn table but without the cartridge connected
4) with the cartridge connected

That should give an indication of where the problem resides.

Best of luck to tackle the culprit,

Jean-Marie
