TOSLink bypass SAM? - MGremlin - 09-Jan-2025

When I see the signal chain in Roon, whenever I use the TOSlink input on my pair of Phantom ! 103's, it does not show the signal using SAM or ADH.
Is the Speaker Active Matching and the Analog Digital Hybrid amplifier not utilized when I use that input?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks more a error in what Roon is displaying than anything else.

ADH is at the very core of the phantom and there is no way you can disable it. If it were disabled, you would not have any more amplification in the phantoms and they would basically stop working.

Similarly, SAM is never disabled in phantoms because it is absolutely core to the bass capabilities of the phantom.

If either of those would be disabled on the TOSlink input, you would hear a big lack of bass and power in the phantom, which is not the case.

So Roon is in the wrong with its display in that case.

When using RAAT for streaming, Roon knows the signal path and what's recieving the signal. When using toslink output from your computer/streamer Roon doesn't/cannot know whats in the receiving end, that's why you don't see SAM, AdH or sample rate conversion in the signal path.

Thank you both!
I like that I can bypass the 96khz->48khz downsampling when using TOSlink, which is why I was interested in using this method over WiFi.

If I remember correct, you cannot bypass the downsampling, regardless input. The internals uses a 48kHz sample rate.
