I want Opinions on Phantom II – Worth the Hype? - Anastasia - 11-Jul-2025 Hey everyone, I have been eyeing the Phantom II for a while now, after seeing so many rave reviews online But before I take the plunge, I wanted to hear directly from people who actually use it. I am not an audiophile in the technical sense but I do care about quality sound — mainly for music a mix of electronic, rock & acoustic stuff & sometimes movies. Is the soundstage really that impressive for a speaker this size? Does it perform well in a medium-sized room without external add-ons? And how does it hold up long-term any overheating or connection issues? Also, is it really that “punchy” on bass as advertised? Want to hear your experiences — both the good and the bad. Trying to figure out if it is truly worth the price tag or more of a luxury flex. 😅 Thank you. ![]() RE: I want Opinions on Phantom II – Worth the Hype? - booshtukka - 12-Jul-2025 Yes, it’s impressive. Yes, it performs well. It doesn’t overheat. If you use Ethernet you’ll unlikely face connection issues. The bass is great and very punchy. But like hifi high quality bass, not like over EQ’d massive subwoofer bass. If you have a good enough basic appreciation for music and a decent source you’ll likely hear details you’ve never heard before in your favourite songs. Also, obviously nowhere near as good as the Phantom Is but incredible for the price, and you do need two. If you want to use them for movies, video games, or anything like live music or DJing, be aware that the processing introduces a latency delay of minimum 60ms or so. For most use cases that’s fine, but you wanted to know the “bad”. That’s the bad. RE: I want Opinions on Phantom II – Worth the Hype? - Ilja9906 - 14-Jul-2025 Same opinion as the first user here, they sound very impressive, especially in small to medium-sized rooms. You don’t need an additional subwoofer for that, but compared with „big“ loudspeakers they lack a bit of mid details. Will you notice that in your everyday use? Probably not, but still, that’s something that the big Phantom I‘s are more capable of. As for the bad side, I would say connectivity, Devialet lacks support for software updates and streaming Hi-Res on these things is quite a challenge. That things apart, it produces unbelievable sound for this size and a stereo pair is a must! RE: I want Opinions on Phantom II – Worth the Hype? - blackdogaudio - 25-Jul-2025 Agreeing with everyone here. My Phantom IIs are phenomenal. They replaced a sizable Naim rig I had for decades. My Naim rig did sound a bit better but at 12 times the price of my Phantoms that's a huge compliment to Devialet's engineering! To be honest, I wouldn't revert back to a conventional hifi system if I had the choice. The Phantoms really are that good. |
