Help choosing a 120V/15A mains block for Silver Phantoms+Dialog
#1
I'm trying to search for something well built, but then I start to look for features like: ground status; wiring status...but, then... I start to look into surge protection....and so it gets complicated, and features start mentioning the word "filter" on it, and I think that gets in the way of PLC?

Does EMI filter gets in the way of PLC?

What are the features of mains blocks I should avoid when buying a mains block for the Silver Phantoms+Dialog?

If any of you are successfully using mains blocks with your Phantoms+Dialog, I'd love to hear about it!

Here are examples I've been considering:

-These ones don't have ground+wiring status, though:

http://www.wiremoldproducts.com/catalog/...C&pid=1228  --> (description says 20V, instead of 120V, but that's just a typing mistake. The brochure has it corrected.)

http://www.wiremoldproducts.com/catalog/...C&pid=1228

This one mentions "EMI filter (Up to 20db for 100K to 20MHz)", but I don't know if that prevents PLC communications, or means any other negatives...and what it seems a plastic housing instead of aluminum....other than that, I don't see anything wrong with it:

Here are some other examples I've been looking at, but they start to mention "EMI/RFI line noise filtering"; "Isolated banks" on them, and like I said...I don't know what to think about that...plus, these 2 below, are 12A, and Devialet support recommended me 15A:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002QPC28?tag=price190-20

These ones are 15A, but again, "filtering":

http://www.amazon.com/Furman-PST-8-Alumi...p_asin_lnk

This one, (same company as 2 above), seems to have less features, but again, "filtering":

I think I also should look for something that is transparent. AKA, it doesn't change the sound. I mean, I auditioned Phantoms at a dealer, but I haven't listened at home, yet. Why would I use something that changes the sound of what Devialet actually delivers?...

Thank you for your time Smile

Try russ andrews in the UK, their distribution blocks are excellent, and can be silver wired, different sockets, various filtering and clamp options etc can all be specified and integrated.

Hope this helps

Do you really need that stuff, or are you located somewhere where the mains is that dirty?

It is not wether his mains is dirty or not. The Phantom PLC is part of the networking between the units. If you put filters or connect Phantoms to separate circuits this will probably not work as it should.
Dialog and Phantoms should be connected to the same power circuit or power strip. It may be a good idea to put filtering between the Phantom/Dialog power and the rest of the system as PLC will appear as noise to other components.

Thanks for the recommendation, Nemal1.

Felix, pretty much what ogs said. It's also a good idea to put some protection in case of power spikes, etc... Funny thing is that is now that I bought Phantoms, that I'm worrying about that stuff. Before, didn't even think about it.
