AIR on sub $200 laptop is working. . .great?!
#1
I have posted a few questions recently on AIR, etc. as I am not particularly happy with the iPad app for my Auralic Aries and really like Roon. So, I was going to upgrade to Windows 10 which was $119. . .but while at best buy found a lenovo idea pad 100 for $179 with Windows 10, 2GB memory and 32GB storage. I bought it on a lark.

I have been using it since last night and for the first time I can use AIR reliably and consistently on my files - including DSD and 192k files. My setup is:

Lenovo ideapad running Roon server on my wifi network
- Music collection on NAS
- Tidal via Roon
Controlling it from my iPad

I'll keep you guys updated. ..so far I am wildly surprised by how well this is working.

Great. Another successful AIR user. Win10 is key.

Win 10 and AIR are really working very well together. I had hardly a dropout or stuttering since using AIR 2.1.3. I can stream all audio bitrates music from NUC's Roon to my Le200 or from desktop music apps on my Win10 tablet to Le200. I have even removed my USB cable totally. I'm a minimalist guy.

Mine is now also working pretty well, occasional stuttering, but only when I play 44.1 kHz files continually for more than 2-3 albums. If I listen to some high Res, it doesn't happen which is almost the complete reverse of what I had in Windows 8 where 44.1 was ok but I couldn't play more than 1 minute at 192 without white noise.

I'm now wondering in the "problem" gets reset each time the sample rate changes? My high Res albums are a mixture of 44, 88, 96 and 192 so probably changing sample rate.

Anyway, I'm close to perfectly happy with it now, the stuttering is nowhere near as bad as white noise and easily sorted out by changing input, it would still be nice if they could sort it out though!

Cheers

Good to read all the positive experiences with AIR and Windows.
I am also a very satisfied user of Roon on a Asus Windows 8.1. laptop in combination with AIR on my Devialet 200.
Till this moment I have not experpienced any single problem with the above mentioned set up, even with high res. files.

I have some serious plans to buy a Asus Vivo mini pc (i5 processor, 256 GB SSD, 8 GB RAM and a powersupply upgrade with a Teddy Pardo 19 volt 3,5 amp.) to use it as a dedicated Roon server, but have some doubts about which Windows version I have to choose on the Asus Vivo mini pc..... I know for sure that 8.1 works reliable, but are the AIR app and Roon working stable and reliable on 10 ?

Like to hear your opinions.
