Why only one AES/EBU input?
#1
I an using the AES input with my CD transport (Pro-ject CD box RS) as it sounds far better than any other possible connection (SPDIF or toslink). I also have a SD-trans 384 (a DIYish server for Wav files on SD cards) connected to my D250 via SDIF. (Both sources have also I2S output which is supposed to be the best output but there is no input option for that to the D250) I was reading about using RCA to AES cables on the experts and thought I should try it with my SD-trans. I just used a Neutrik AES/RCA adapter and my 75 Ω cable and it sounds much better than the RCA digital inputs. The difference is not subtle, quite more resolution, less noise and better defined soundstage.

One possible way to use multiple sources on that single AES input would be something like the Mutec 3+ (USB). Sound wise it should be a good solution (even more if I2S would be possible) but that would be one more box, 2 more cables so more clutter.
