My system when I'm using USB is:
MBP -- iUSB (orig) -- Regen -- Dev120.
My cables are AQ Carbon or Cinnamon (can't remember, it was about £100) and a Transparent one a bit cheaper than that but quite good. They do make a difference, especially against the normal or cheap cables that come with the iFi, and then I use the hard connector between Regen and Dev.
As I live quite far away (Argentina) I have no chance to try the Intona, or even the Mutec Antoine recommends, which seem, with the Rendu, to be the next wave of "much cheaper but at least as good" streamers and signal enhancers. Besides, Air2 works fine for me with a direct connection MBP to Dev, and I only passed to USB because this iUSB and cable combination comes pretty close (to my ears and in my room) to it. If I manage to get Air3 to work in my system I may live USB behind me. Also, USB allows me to play DSD.
