NAS Optimization
#1
Hi all:

My current setup:-
PC (DELL E4310 with ssd, Windows 8.1, itunes)
Cisco Router
Synology 411+ NAS (4x 3tb)
Devialet 120
All connected via cat7 ethernet cables

My question is, when I start playing music, I had to go through:
1) Turn on Devialet
2) Turn on PC
3) Open itunes
4) Select Devialet AIR
5) Turn on ipad / itunes remote

Then, between I select song and start playing, there is a 20sec lag. Is it my synology being too old? my PC being too old? or is it because my HDD in NAS being too slow?

Anyone has any other tips on optimizing the NAS?

You could check if the NAS is in sleep mode or has powered down the harddrives.

As you are using a PC you could also give Foobar a try, I also use a PC--a low spec one and an Synology NAS, it works flawless and is blistering fast with my 500GB music collection.

It will cost you 0€ as Foobar is free, in addition you may get better sound quality, I don't think that iTunes can play bit perfect on a PC....

You will need to download Foobar it self:
http://www.foobar2000.org/download

Then you will need the wasapi output componet:

Kind regards Morten
