Devialet OS
#1
It says:
---
Among other major improvements, Expert 1000 Pro will integrate the new Devialet OS in 2017. A free upgrade will soon open the path for many uses of dematerialized music such as UPnP/DLNA.
---
Will this be based on a completely new software architecture / framework?
Any ideas what to expect?

It's not exactly new, Devialet OS is what is used by the Phantoms and the current version is 1.7.1 (soon to be upgraded once the Golds are released).

So is there a difference (apart from the name) to the current firmare 9.0.1 of the Expert line?

It's not known yet what it is exactly.

Current is 'just' DSP/FPGA/microcontroller firmware. I'm guessing the new will be a Linux based micro computer operating system running on a DUET replacement card. I'm guessing it'll run in parallel to the current firmware, though some parts (e.g. AIR or underlying WiFi/ethernet driver code) could be substituted by it of course.

I once looked up what's inside the Phantom and Expert, see link. As you can see the hardware inside the Phantom is much more powerful (which is relevant for streaming/computer audio). The focus in the Expert lies mainly on DSP functionality.

Think the new Expert Pro line & upgrades should it make as powerful too.
Changing settings via iPad / iPhone app or web browser is a long requested feature too.

Just a question to better understand, Devialet says that with the expert Pro upgrade program the new Devialet OS board will be delivered for free in 2017.
So it means it could be available also for the older expert line as it is an additional board ?

Presumably the new streamer board will need to connect both from a power and a signal point of view to the internals of the Devialet, the infrastructure to make these connections is likely to be part of the PRO upgrades therefore the chances of it fitting to the older boards is probably zero or less.

When I chatted to Devialet's Mathieu Pernot at the 1000 Pro launch event, he did state that the new streamer board would feature an ARM processor and be programmable.  So this being some kind of Linux based system does look very likely.

Yes, and PLC (Power Line Communication).  The Pro power supply is reconfigured versus the expert and has a mains filter located such that PLC signal can accessed be before the filter.
