7.1.3 is louder than other firmwares. I think that 7.1.3 is also more analogue sounding that the rest of firmwares. Warmer, nicer, more mids and more relax in sound.

I will agree with that. In my system (Musical Affairs Grand Crescendo, with PHY-HP units) 7.1.3 gives the most analogue sound of all firmwares. But Air 3.0 has a lot more issues and dropouts. So i move to USB connection. And that makes me happy. Lovely sound!

Instead of Air 3.0 install and use 2.1.3. In my case it works!:-)

Will try tomorrow, thanks

I've been doing a little more experimenting and so far I prefer 7.1.3 with digital files but I'm drifting towards 9.0.1 (without SAM) when playing vinyl. For me 7.1.3 is a little too soft when playing records.

After a few weeks of living with different FW's, I can quietly conclude that for some weird reason nr. 7 actually does sound more engaging, full, natural and warm to me - in my room and via my speakers.

Overall there is less a sense of analytical detail and separation compared to, say, FW10, but playback (of vinyl, since that is what I play 95% of the time) gains in ease, coherence, body and musicality. Yup, perhaps it's more "analog", for want of a better word?

Time and again, I found myself drawn into the music more when listening through FW7.
(heck, even while I'm typing this, I can't help but bob along to Lightnin' Hopkins "Goin' Away" lp playing in the background. Take it, Lightnin'!!)

Strange. What parameters do Devialet change to alter the sound?
I'm gonna stop worrying about that and continue to enjoy the music.
(Anybody try FW6? ;)

Yes I tried various versions of v6. I did not like any of them. Too bright in my system. 7.1.3. is the only one after 5.7.x (I believe it was 5.7.3) that is "special".  I have used 9.0.1 for a long time and reinstalled 7.1.3 recently. 9.x is clearly better in my system (more detail and openness without being bright) than 6.x, 7.x and 8.x apart for 7.1.3 which is still the firmware I prefer on my 250. I have yet to try 10.x. I will wait till I have my 250 back from the Pro upgrade. I have a feeling v10.x performs better on the new v6 (Pro) hardware than v5.
