Question to Devialet regarding Roon and MQA

I will not coment on Spark (I use it with my Phantom) but if that is the only option to control the streamerboard that is really sad  Sad

I agree. I think this might be is a disaster, a total nightmare if they really have chosen to support only Spark. But then again, this is not really a big surprise since they don't seem to listen customers.

If they can do DSD decoding internally, I would think MQA decoding would be achievable without a streamer board.  That said Devialet hasn't been delivering much new and improved with regards to firmware updates in the last year.  Oops, I forgot about the new display colors and font.

Yeah, credit where credits due - those display tweaks must have taken up huge amounts of resources and was also one of the most user requested features...

I think you're right about the MQA bit. If you can add it to a dragonfly, a Devialet is most likely able.

Don't forget that these Dragonflies were developed after MQA was released and Devialet still has an older DAC chip from before MQA

Does anyone actually know what is required for a fully 'MQA' certified DAC? Is it specific hardware, firmware or whatever? What specifically is required?

From what we read early on in the game you HAD to have an MQA capable DAC. From what I read on Computer Audiophile Tidal does it all... ALL being the operative word, although not mentioned like that but definitely hinted at.

But whether that is actually the case, who knows. Confused, Confused?  Huh

A few minutes on Google and I managed to answer my own question.  Basically you need 'custom' MQA software specific for the DAC chip used.  How this fits with Devialet's DAC implementation and ADH I am not sure.  Also, assuming this could be done, would it require licensing fees from Devialet to Meridian?   Many questions, and I suspect it will be a very long time before there are any definitive answers from Devialet. Good news that we do at least have the prospect of music server software based solutions in the meantime.

I dont know if this is just my rather cynical view on Devialet, but have they not shown a reluctance to work with anyone elses technology so far?
Also is MQA going to take off? Not sure if I was at Devialet I would be making this a priority yet.

I think Devialet could easily do MQA decoding specific to their implementation in the DSP. Devialet seems quite unwilling to do anything they have not invented/patented themselves. Roon is the other obvious example. Room correction is another... I fear the UPnP/DLNA Devialet have announced will have quirks that make it problematic to use too.

And of course Room correction means you cannot use MQA as they are mutually exclusive

I believe the original spec mandated MQA decoding to be done only in hardware but that they dropped this requirement in the last year or so (probably around the time a deal with Tidal started to look possible!).
