Understanding Input Sensitivity
#1
I touched this topic somewhat in thread regarding clipping but to be honest, I am a bit lost when trying to understand how this works and what the optimal settings are when one has the possibility to adjust things such as gain, max input level, etc.  Confused

Example: If I have a phono preamp that has an rca output rating of 4 volts RMS, what max. input level should I set the devialet line inputs to? To make it more complicated, if I place my Trinnov ST-2 in between, how should I set the input level sensitivity and output level (both in tenths of a dB) for its rca connection so that the whole chain plays like it should?  Undecided
