Tidal HiFi streaming without using Dialog
#1
Hi.

I recently received my Phantom Gold and I am exploring a whole new world Smile

I would like to use my Phantom for Hi-Fi music streaming and as a home theater. I configured my system accordingly, and took care of the latter part by connecting my Phantom to my Samsung smart TV and offsetting the audio output to compensate for the audio delay. However, I'm still struggling with the Hi-Fi music streaming part.

Since I do not have a Dialog, I'm not able to use Tidal in the Spark app (the Spark app has Spotify integrated therein but Spotify does not provide HiFi streaming). The only option that I can think of for playing Tidal is via Bluetooth, which is not a good solution considering the audio quality degradation.

Is there a way I can use Tidal Hi-Fi streaming without using a Dialog in a single Phantom setting?

You could buy a Chromecast Audio and an optical switch, or you could use Airplay. I don't know if UPNP works without a Dialog.

I found an app called "Bubble UPnP" that allows you to connect your phone to your Phantom via UPnP. Tidal and Qoboz are integrated into the app, so you can stream Hi-Fi music without using any additional device. The only down side is that the UI is not as good as the original apps (Tidal, Qoboz).

Even better, the app provides an Android widget for controlling music playback and adjusting Phantom's volume. This is especially useful if you don't have a Phantom remote since Spark does not provide any kind of widget for adjusting Phantom's volume. You can also use this widget to adjust Phantom's volume when playing via optical input (e.g. TV; I find this very useful since my TV does not allow adjusting the optical output volume using it's remote). With this app, I don't have to open Spark, which is super slow and freezes, crashes a lot, any more!

On Android maybe not, but on IOS yes there is a widget that allows you on Iphones and Ipad to control volume, pause and skip next and previous integrated in Spark.

BubbleUPnP works like a charm, can you use it without having a Dialog?

Yes, I'm currently using it without a Dialog. The app connects directly to Phantom Gold via UPnP.

I also heard from Devialet customer support that there will be a new firmware release soon (ver. 1.13), and that that firmware will enable playing TIDAL music in Spark without Dialog. He said that the release date is not fixed but it would be released in a couple of weeks.

That sounds good as I only got the Dialog to play Tidal.
