The WoW moments
#1
Not really knowing where to post this thread and possibly leaning a bit out the window, I just wanted to reflect on what I can't better describe as the WoW moments ...

Something I just experienced as I took the time this evening to sit back and really listen to my system and music. The WoW moment for me is the state where one listens closely and hears things one maybe never heard before (or took notice), really almost becoming enveloped in sound, and the (yes) beauty of music. I really can't put the feeling in words, but when it happens I think it is absolutely fantastic. For me, that's what makes this hobby worth every minute.

You might feel that I am getting a bit carried away (no mind altering drugs at play here .. Smile, but I am curious if others also experience something similar?

Hi baconbrain, I'm full of you! sometimes I just want to listen to something, but then "wow" comes the next song and so it goes on. A look at the clock, already three hours have passed. It does not matter, its fun. Shy

I've always thought of it like runner's high, or deep meditation... it creates a certain brain chemistry that is highly addictive.

Exactly, and it's that addiction which probably drives one to improve that experience through tweaking, experimenting, and ultimately investing considerable time and money ...

I auditioned a set of Gauder Akustik speakers out of their Berlina series a couple of weeks ago, where I sat in a dedicated listening room armed with stick full of my favorite digital music. Three hours later, I walked out of the room and the dealer ( no pun on words intended) asked me what I thought and my immediate response was, "no" those speakers are not for me. He was of course curious as to why, and I struggled to explain to him what was missing, but I knew it was the wow moment. That bit of something that goes beyong just listening to a good system.

My Sonus faber Olympica ll speakers now have about 40 hours on them and are starting to sound like the ones that I auditioned. I'm having WoW moments on a regular basis, hearing things that eluded my previous speakers. That's what I love about new gear: lots of WoWs!

Got HQPlayer up and running with Devialet Air today. Had to change SCs to some old ones. The speakers came alive and perform at their right level.

Really like the Olympica series from Sonus Faber. Very natural sound and outstanding craftsmanship. Always wanted to try the Olympica l 's since I don't really have the space for floor standers but haven't had the chance yet.

Try Sonus Faber Guarneri Evolution. Used for about 9000 Euro. Fantastic match with D250. Ultimate speaker for small rooms.

Sorry to stay off topic, but the Olympica ll take up no more room than the l. I would imagine that they would work well in a smaller room as the bass is not pronounced and could be reigned in with SAM or the tone control if needed.
