All Pro's are Masters?
#1
I have picked up some very intriguing information which has surprised me enormously.  Apparently all 'upgraded to Pro' Experts are now Masters, that is both Master and Companion included the Ethernet 'Duet' board during upgrade.

Another rumour.  For dual mono customers, Devialet are considering the request of the return of both Master and Companion, with the consideration being that both get the new Core Intelligence board.

One thing I have checked, my 1000 Pro companion (bought new, not an upgraded Expert) does indeed have an Ethernet socket, I am sure that the old Expert companions did not?  So as surprising as this information might be, I think it could be correct.

That might make a lot of business sense... Having to maintain separate Companion product lines for each of the Experts may be higher than the incremental cost to make all Expert Pros masters. I know I bought a 2nd 220 Pro to form my 440 Pro because I couldn't find a 220 Companion at a price less than a 220 Pro.

If true, then all the more reason to upgrade the older Experts with Companions to Pro status if/when they make the upgrade program available again.

Looking at Devialet's website there is no mention anywhere of 'companions'.  This is from a dealer advert:

Overview:
The companion is the second Devialet 220 Pro required for a Dual-Mono configuration.  It is equipped with all technologies, inputs and features of a master device (except the WiFi card). Therefore, it can also be configured as a stereo device for a multi-amplification system.
Content of the companion case:
A companion device (without the WiFi card)
A Crystal Cable Standard Diamond digital link cable
An SD-Card for the slave configuration
A companion setup manual

So it looks like the companion only lacks the wifi board, and of course a physical remote control.  Was this the case with the old companion?  That is does an Expert D200 / D250 companion actually have an Ethernet input?

I can only tell you about the old companions, they all had an Ethernet connection but the board that controlled both it and the WiFi were missing, so the physical socket was there but no electronics to drive it.

Could it be that the companion will have the board but is restricted software wise to be used as a stand alone? Then it really doesn't give you any advantage does it?

Have you tried running your 1000 Pro companion as a free standing 250 Pro? Since many of us will be shipping our 1000 Pro Master units back to France for the new board, it would be nice if we could rely on the remaining unit while the Master is away. Of course, perhaps this means that both Master and Companion will have to be shipped back if they both get the new board?

That's why I haven't sold my 200 yet; gotta have music. Although I didn't think it was going to take this long and the 200 has by now lost a couple of grand off its value... Sad

Ha! I'm holding onto my Expert 250 for the same reason! We clearly are not making sound financial decisions...

Nope. I've sort of resigned to the fact that selling it will not have a significant impact on my bank account so it's probably going to end up in the bedroom.

is it a 250 expert?
