Tidal or Qobuz?
#1
I’ve been using Tidal for a few years now and been very happy with the library content and also the sound quality through my previous system driven through Chord QBD76 and now through Phantom Golds.

I say happy but do wonder if the hi res sublime + streaming via Qobuz might be better. I know it’s £350 a year but I would be happy to pay if it’s worth the extra cost over Tidal, especially as there’s no suggestion that Devialet will support MQA in the future.

Has anyone compared the two and what thoughts both from content and sound quality?

Maybe it is a question where you are localized. For me Qobuz works extremely well, whereas with Tidal I had always dropouts. So for me Tidal is a no-go, even though I'm a Roon subscriber and suffer that no streaming is offered in Roon except Tidal that does not work for me. Live in France.

I have been using Qobuz sublime for two years now. Apart from a couple of very minor outages the service has been superb. My subscription was due this week and I have upgraded to sublime plus. The Hi Res sound quality is excellent.

I'm hoping that it won't be too long after the Core Infinity board is fitted to my 220 Pro that we get Qobuz direct on the Devialet.

At the moment I use Logitech media server with the Qobuz plugin streaming to my Logitech Transporter with AES/EBU balanced digital output to the Devialet

Using both - Qobuz HiRes has the crown soundwise

Have been doing Tidal for a couple of years, and occasionally hit patches of drop-outs. Sound is great. Just started a free trial of Qobuz (US), but there are a lot of titles missing, and some where the rights have not been granted. Not having things like Pet Sounds may be a deal breaker, even if it may sound a hair better.

Hello I used TIDAL for about 2 years, never had any problems! For about 5 months I use Qobuz, very reliable and dis today no malfunctions or failures. I find the SQ at Qobuz better (partly 24bit!!), will subscribe to Studio Hi-Res! Rolleyes

Hello, have an informative article on the differences in the SQ of streaming services found (unfortunately only in German)!

You’d need to be sure you were listening to exactly the same version on both services. Otherwise the you are comparing something else entirely

Thank you for the link, I appreciate that kind of pragmatic approach.

I am a subscriber to Tidal, qobuz and Spotify, I will take this opportunity to test some elements in order to get my own idea.
