Hi
See my comments on dCS vs Roon on https://devialetchat.com/showthread.php?tid=3979&page=7
My view (still) is that the dCS Network bridge is superior to all other forms of streaming I have tried. Linking Roon (Mac) through dCS is very good but not as good as dCS on its own - I think the degradation is the insertion of the Mac in the chain - keep it simple!
The balance is between the brilliance of Roon as a library management tool vs. the superior sonics of the dCS (with crappy dCS app - I use mConnect which is fine for me).
Hard choice.
Hope that is helpful.

AES vs spdif (XLR vs RCA) is not as straightforward as you might think - no clear winner for me - just subtle spacial and focus differences.
