400 v 250

Has anyone had the opportunity to compare a 400 to a 250?

Devialet probably! I have to admit I'm still drawn to the one box concept as that's quite a large reason why I bought a Devialet in the first place. Of course it's brilliant that the choice is there to add more units and make it sound better but I am loving the lack of boxes and (expensive) cables with my puny 170. I'm quite tempted to switch to a (probably used) 250 at some point though. Or add another 200. D'oh, I don't know! I have a horrible feeling the 400 could be significantly better than the 250.

Hi Gavin you actually heard the 400 powering a pair of Sophia 3s at Munich didn't you?

Good? Wink

Maybe, but if you get a 250 you're 60% of the way to a 800!

That's the way I'm looking at it, anyways.

On occation I had the chance to try the D-Premiere in mono configuration ( this was in late 2011) but I can't say I heard any bigger difference in my system. I will visit Devialet next month - hopefully I will have the opportunity to listen to the 400/800 then and compare.

One little mentioned gain in a dual mono version of the new products is the ability to use most of the inputs on both the master and slave.
I have been connecting 3 items to the line input of my dual D-Premiers via a connection box, with the update to 800 I can do away with the connection box and optimise the inputs for each of the 3 sources.
This I like.

And I suppose that you will get twice the processing power, two field-programmable gate array chips, more RAM, more connections, easier way to set up a headphone amp, more room to implement DSD decoding, etc
This I like too.Wink

I just arrived back from a two day visit in Paris and Devialet. During the second day of the visit, we did some listening to the 120, 200, 400 and the mighty 800. This time the comparison 200 vs 400 and 250 vs 800 presented improvements in advantage for the mono setups. So now my biggest concern is how to afford another 250. The difference in power was addictive...Wink

My second amp is coming back (hopefully) from complete makeover next week. I miss it dearly as 800 is so radically different/better than 250, more on certain speakers. I believe yours will love the second Devialet.

You may try to find a D-Premier and send it for upgrade, which might be cheaper that getting a new D250. With all the new guarantee and cleanup, should not make a difference. Only problem may be a color mismatch, but I kind of love having one black chrome (D250) and one matt black. They look good together.
