Interesting thread. Like most of us, it would appear, I started using SAM at 100%. After a few days and having listened to various types if music, I thought that the bass was just too much, and not as controlled as I'd like. I actually put this down to my room and the Akurate 242 speakers. Their bass control is not particularly good at loudish volumes.
I've since dialled SAM down to 50% - but like other posters on this topic, I want to use it at 100%, for absolutely no logical reason, other than I want maximum SAM! I might experiment with speaker positioning and further adjustments to SAM after Christmas. Fundamentally, I'm looking to change my speakers in 2015 anyway and get a Dialog, so enough to keep me busy for a while!
