BTW, anybody care to second guess the conclusion of this contest?

Hi - longtime expert 200 owner, new to the forum. I've just purchased a rose hifi streamer and am debating going different routes with my current setup which has simply been the devialet --> B&W 802Ds.

One option is to sell the devialet, another is to keep using it as an integrated and the third is to use only part of its capabilities I suppose.

I don't understand devialet's technology, which I recall being quite exciting back in the mid 2010s, well enough to understand what is lost if the unit's DAC and preamplification stages are bypassed. A better understanding would help me decide how I want to proceed. Thanks!

Hi all

I have a question that I can't find answered anywhere else. I recently bought an expert 200 used and I love it. I'm now thinking of selling the Naim equipment that it replaced and my question is. What is the basic reliability of the expert range like? I'm not talking about updates, customer support (which for me has been good thus far) but whether the equipment will last another 10-20 years like my Naim gear has. Thanks in advance, Graeme

Hello All,

I'm checking in with a request for suggestions or advice from this community. Here's the deal:

I'm looking for a new/ replacement amplifier. I have a NAD M32. It followed my 220 Pro CI. The NAD is good, but it never really felt or sounded engaging.

For speakers I have Alta Audio Celesta FRM-2M stand-mounts. 87.5 db and 4 ohms. They are clear and precise with excellent bass, and a ribbon tweeter. More 'Magico' than 'Harbeth'. If you look at the review on the Audiophillia website, Anthony Kershaw has a review, and I have this exact pair- his review pair. You may have seen reviews of the smaller Alissa speakers from Alta. A British Audiophile and Jay's Iyagi both reviewed those speakers, in case some other opinions are helpful. I do also use a KEF 62 sub for just a bit of extra.... support.

The NAD is fine, but does run out of oomf, and does not have the 'midrange sweetness' lets call it, of the Devialet amp, and so I'm looking to change the amp. I actually do want a bit more character this time, so another' remarkably neutral, just-gets-out-of-the-way' amp is not what I'm after. A tube preamp section is OK, but I'm not after a fully tube/ valve integrated. And I do want an integrated, BTW.

One other note is that we have in-wall speakers in the kitchen, running on a Bluesound PowerNode and the NAD M32 has the BluOS board in it, so we can use the two systems together or separately. That is a spouse-driven imperative, so no debates there, please. And I do understand that the Bluesound source imposes some SQ limitations in comparison to more exotic and expensive streamers. I anticipate that I'd get a Bluesound Node ICON as the next source for the new amp.

To the point:

I'd like to get opinions from the Devialet crowd about amp alternatives. Budget matters, and so does size and weight. I don't have a great space for gear, so something small and compact like the Devialet is really appealing. I'll almost certainly buy used, but sometimes good deals come along.

There is a recently recapped D-Premier available near me in Canada. I'd welcome your thoughts about this idea. Or any other brand people feel I should consider. I can also look for a 140 or something like that.

One other request: Edit: I'm not concerned about upgrades for software or new features: I never felt abandoned in that regard. I also don't think I'll do a ProCI upgrade if I do get a used Expert amp. Just more money than hifi is worth to me at this point.

Otherwise, thanks in advance to everyone for their thoughts.

Context: I have a pair of original Phantom I Silver’s (105db). Unfortunately one of them was damaged during a move this summer and needed to be completely repaired. Total repair was going to cost $1300 to fix the damaged speaker and update the exterior of the second one so that they would match aesthetically. I took some time to save some money for the repair but Devialet now says they can no longer have the parts necessary to repair my speaker. Because I had already talked to them about replacing the damaged speaker they’re instead offering me the option of replacing both of my speakers with either the current Phantom I 103db ($3000 fix) or the Phantom I 108 ($4000 fix).

So my questions are as follows:

1) What other options might I have?

2) Has there been any significant improvements / upgrades to the modern Phantoms?

3) If I do decide to replace both, is it worth the extra 500$ per speaker to get the 108db over the 103db?

Hello everybody,

after ten years of reading this chat i ask for your advice. I use a Devialet Expert Pro 220, currently with a SoTM 200 Ultra Neo. SoTM is updating this little streamer so he is up to date, but a minimum of 8 years old. Furthermore i use a lot of small helpful friends from After Dark (OXCO and LPS) Synergistic Research - powercable for 220- MIG SX - Tranquility Pods, under RoonRock and Expert and some fuses from SR. Stein Music Q2+Q3 for my Fritz!box and EtherRegen. I also use two REL 510 subs. I like my combo very much. After the announcement of Devialet, not to update the Expert line, nothing changed my mind.
But i am thinking about a new streamer and like the Nagra very much. Currently i am using a JPLAY Signature usb cable to connect the Ultra Neo to my Devialet. Nagra must connect via SPDIF.

Nagra a few days ago introduced a new streamer + dac combo called Nagra Compact Player. I asked the Devialet support if i am able to use this combo and use the Devialet only as a amplifier. They told me that this is no problem, i am furthermore able to use the AES input for my two subs. I asked this because i wrote a Astra review - i think in TAS- they recommend to use high level support from Devialet via AES for best subs performance.

Is anyone in this forum who is using an external streamer and / or a dac combo and / or two subs via AES input and will tell me his experiences. Thank you for reading my whole story and your help😉✌️ Happy listening Eric

B&W and Sonus Faber owners seem to favour Macintosh; Sugden - Harbeth, Spendor, Pro-Ac; Magico has D’Agostini amps, but we don’t appear to have a preferred transducer in our camp. I’d be curious to find out what speakers the 440 has a natural affinity with and how far up the audiophile ladder they’ve successfully mated? Thinking one day I might go Watt Puppies but wondered if there are examples of matching with a better speaker than those?

I'm creating a new thread, since the app is now available for use and testing. Get the app here. (In short, you'll need to install the TestFlight app on your device and then click the "View in TestFlight" link on that page.) Here's a screenshot of the main interface in dark mode.

The only troubleshooting issue so far has been local network access. The app requires local network access to communicate with your amp, and it should ask for that on first run. If it doesn't, or there's some other network issue, go to Settings-->Apps>ExPro and check that "Local Network" is switched on. If that doesn't work, then the issue may be VPN settings, which can block local network access; if you have a VPN setup on your device, try turning it off.

Eventually, I'll post the app in the App Store, for free. It may take a while: the reviewers say I need to produce a walkthrough video showing the app interfacing with an amp. In the meanwhile, source code is here.

Thanks to the initial testers for their feedback. Please submit any comments, bug reports, etc., either here or via TestFlight.

Hi, I am trying since the last hours to reinstall my Phantom Ultimate 108dB via Devialet App on my network.

I made several times factory reset, but connection (out of the view of Devialet App) is failing.

This is a short description.

After setting to factory mode, I start Devialet App on my iPhone.
The Devialet app is finding the Ultimate via Blutooth.
Then first option to connect to WLAN starts

my WLAN network is found for AirPlay Configuration. Press continue and the App tries to connect to my network ... and fails after some minutes.

I try second option over the Devialet App

choose my network out of a list, add my WLAN Password and press next ... and the Devialet App sends me the message after some minutes that a error occure

BUT I can see the Ultimant with IP-address in the list on my router. I can even access the UI of Ultimate over the IP-address...

For the Devialet App the Ultame installation is not finished.

If I try option three and connect my Ultimate via LAN

my Ultimat appears in my network (I can see it in the list of my router)

I can access the UI of Ultimate over the IP-address of the LAN connection

BUT for the Devialet App the installation was not successful and is still ongoing

If someone has an idea how to get the installation done, that Devialet App is showing the Ultimate as installed, I would be very happy.

Best Regards
