I'm sure between the lot of us - we've heard some exceptional recordings - amazing production value that really tries to do justice to dynamics and space across the instruments (and vocals), and you can find the music able to breathe and have body. This thread is less about your favourite bands/ music, and more about where the music really shines through due to great production/ recording method.

Would love to have this thread grow with inputs from the community.
Please reply with the albums that you find are exceptional from a production standpoint - format you're listening in, bit rate/ sampling, and a few lines about what production elements really stands out to you.

Michel Godard - A Trace of Grace
Starting off - in my collection, the absolutely most amazing sounding record without doubt is Michel Godard's "A trace of grace" .... it's a tribute to Monteverdi with a jazz meets baroque. The Ensemble instruments comprise of the Serpent, bass, violin, saxophone amongst other instruments. Recorded in the Noirlac Abbey in France - there's so much space for the music to breathe - unbelievable. Every instrument has a massive amount of space, and incredible fidelity from the lowest impact strums to the great attacks from the saxophone & serpent. I've heard some Chesky recordings, but this is in another league in terms of recording excellence.
Granted the musical complexity is low - but oh how I wish more recordings were given such due care!

I've been playing an HDTracks download at 24bit/ 192kHz. Must listen to tracks - Roma, A trace of grace

Apologies to @Eddye for stealing and corrupting the thread title from what remains the most popular thread on this forum. I somehow doubt this thread will have the same longevity, but I thought it might be a bit of fun. It might even offer a chance to test the AirPlay feature of your CI equipped Pro's, with a bit of YouTube streaming from your iPad.

Anyway. You may have noticed that the world cup has commenced. In England, as in many countries, this is usually accompanied by some kind of "World Cup Anthem". These can be "official" tracks like the very fine "World in Motion", produced by New Order and featuring some very fine rapping from the 1990 England World Cup Squad. In other years it may be an unofficial song that captures the imagination of the nation, a fine example of this is Fat Les' (Keith Allen & Blur's Alex James) "Vindaloo". (1998) This not only became a huge hit, but was also very controversial, deemed by some as harking back to dark days of England hooliganism. I recall a Keith Alan interview at the time when he made a quip about being amused by the concept of racist England football fans chanting "Vindaloo", which has to be some sign of multiculturalism. At the end of the day, it was just plain catchy and good fun.

Back to the official songs, arguably the greatest of all time was "Three Lions", with lyrics from David Baddiel & Frank Skinner and music by the Lightning Seeds. This started life as a song to celebrate the European Championship coming to England in 1996, but has been periodically updated for subsequent World Cup tournaments, with the number of "years of hurt" updated in line with the arrow of time since the last victory in 1966.

Anyway, enough pointless history waffle, now to 2018. It would appear that the top tune to cheer on the England squad this year is this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UW_fHm7SQo
Utterly appalling and infectiously catchy in equal measure..... You decide

Not sure whether this is new.
I just happen to notice that many of the ECM records albums are available for Tidal streaming today.
Starting to stream some music from Bobo Stenson now.
This might have an effect on my ECM purchases for a while.

Hello folks - I'm hoping someone else has a copy of Ingrid Fliter's Chopin Preludes on Linn Records and might like to help me out a little:

If so, I'd be interested to hear what you think of the sound quality, either on the 16/44 or higher-res versions. (The performance is sublime, no question about that!) To give a bit of focus, try No. 15, "Raindrop".

Feel free to put a note in the thread or PM me if you prefer - I'll be very grateful either way.

For lack of a clearer place, I post this under Your Music...

It’s starting to spread in the press that apparently Ton Petty was found in his house, unconscious, having had a heart attack. Doctors at the hospital he was rushed to have declared him “brain dead”... another sad and tragic loss in Music.
