Hi all,

Will be in the process next week of swapping a Rega cart out for an AT VM540ML MM cart.

The recommended load capacitance is 100-200pF.
The recommended load impedance is 47K

I have a re-wired RB330 tone arm with Origin Live which has low pF (40pF).

What should my settings be in my Devialet 220 Pro?

Thanks for your help in advance!

I have been using the Devialet Expert Pro 220 with my turntable setup for a few months now & it is blowing my mind. I knew it would sound great, but there is something about the analog warmth it delivers that I was not quite expecting — the detail and separation are next level.

I am using it with a Clearaudio Concept and a pair of Focal speakers. Curious if others here are pairing their Expert Pro with vinyl setups & what your experiences have been like? Any tips for tweaks or settings that help bring out the best from a vinyl source? Also wondering if SAM has made a noticeable difference for you vinyl folks — I have been playing with it a bit.

Hello everyone!
Can somebody help to figuer out the settings for Hana MH? I think I get it right, but need a confirmation from somebody who really know and understand it.

Specs Hana MH:
Output Level: 2.0mV (MH)
Channel Balance: <1dB/1kHz
Rec. Tracking Force: 2g
Trackability: 70µ/2g
Compliance: 10×10-6 cm/dyne
Channel Separation: 30dB @ 1kHz
Frequency Range: 12Hz to 45kHz
Impedance: 100Ω (MH)
Suggested Load Impedance: 47kΩ (MH)

I already know that for 47kOhm I have to choose High and 0 pF.
I don't really understand what is pF for, because in Hana specs there is no parameters for this value pF. Can somebody explain it?
For Max Level I suppose it should be 2000 uV = 2.0 mV as in specs.
Please correct me if it's wrong. Thank you.

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and would like to share my first impressions of the Devialet with you.

I retired my older Yamaha integrated amplifier (A-S2000) a few weeks ago and now have a Devialet Expert 140 Pro here. My first impression of the sound was already very good, but I also like the other functions, especially SAM and the many customization options for the configuration and of course the Devialet all-in-one strategy.

I listen almost exclusively to vinyl via a MuFi m6 Vinyl phono preamplifier (MC). However, as I want to reduce the number of devices, I have started to test the MC-Devialet phono section.

The good news is that the hiss with MC is absolutely ok for me. The bass seems a bit thinner, but is more than compensated for by SAM. Apart from that, I can't detect any real differences between the phono sections.

The bad news is that I can hear several disturbing noises with the Devialet phono section:

1. a clocked noise, most likely from the WiFi. There are days when it is only audible at a very high volume, but today it was already present at -40dB.
The only solution here is to completely deactivate the WiFi in the Devialet configuration. The WiFi stand-by function in the configuration does not help here.

Basically, the Devialet WiFi function doesn't seem to be really stable. There are days when I first have to unplug/plug in the mains plug to get the Devialet to connect to the WiFi.

2. irregularly occurring ticks (always two in a row, approx. 1 second apart, then a pause of several seconds). As these ticks have only appeared since today, I will first check whether a new device is in operation in the neighborhood.

The above-mentioned noises never occurred with my previous combination (Yamaha A-S200/MuFi m6 Vinyl or MuFi m6 Vinyl with Devialet line in).
Could it be that I have overlooked something in the configuration that could be the cause of the noise? Are there any known solutions in the forum?

Greetings Jürgen

Hi,
I have a Rega P3 that I upgraded about 7 years ago with a TT PSU, a Groovetracer alloy sub platter with zirconium ball, P6 feet and an Exact cartridge.
The rest of the system is a Devialet 250 with Atom GT1-SE speakers, REL T-Zero subs (stereo), Atacama stands and a Mac mini/Audirvana Studio digital source.

Recently I've been finding that my LPs sound muddy and lifeless compared to the digital source. Not dramatic but enough to put me off playing them. The Exact probably has about 1200 to 1500 hours on it, so I think that's the likely source of the problem. A replacement is about £300.

Wondering if I should move up to an MC (the D250 integrated digital phono stage supports that) - Ania Pro or a lightly used Apheta 2 (£6-800) - my deck is more P6 level than P3, or just wait and get a P8 + Apheta 3 new or ex-dem next year for £2500-2800, selling the P3.

I enjoy playing my LPs and have some nice classic rock first press ones from the 70s in good condition, though mostly I use the digital source for convenience (which does sound superb - typical D250, very clear, open sound stage, well separated instruments, smooth precise bass, very low sound floor). I prefer the classic LPs on Vinyl as that's what they were recorded and balanced for and it just sounds 'right'.

I know I should listen, but time etc..
What would you do?

I very happily use a PT Anniversary with SME IV/Hana ML with my 440 Pro CI.

I have been offered a Technics 1200GR at a good price and was considering using it as a second deck as well as the PT and also for my son to use.

The configurator seems to let you do this, I can enable another phono input very easily on the companion from what I can see.

Anyone else do this? Anything I should be aware of? The Technics would most likely have an Ortofon or AT MM cart.
Just trying to fine tune the LP setting with Denon infos.
Initialy i was on 100 Ohms and 0 pF. Which are default values pre-filled.

My curiosity sent me to Denon website and others sites dédicated to LP’s.

Most of them are mentionning 1000 Ohms and 400 pF.
So i did change the setting, but a loud noise is playing even if no LP is playing.
Did you have a similar expérience ?

Hi,

I would appreciate your suggestions for a new cartridge. I currently have Thorens TD-903 turntable with a relatively low mass tonearm with effective mass of 11g. I currently have Shelter MC 301 mk II Cartridge. It is ok but not the best fit in regards to cartridge compliance value. Low mass tonearms would combine better cartridges that have medium to high compliance value. Shelter has compliance value of about 9 and I should be looking for a cartridge that has preferably compliance value of 20 or more.

I also do not use separate RIAA. Have tried Lehmann Black Box and modded Ear 834P but prefer the Devialets own due to better transparency to the source. The problem with my current cartridge is the low output voltage and I feel that although Devialets RIAA is very nice in other aspects there is a quite a bit of background hiss and noise from low voltage output MC Cartridges and Shelter has low output it being as low as 0,4mV.

I know some MC Cartridges have high output options that are a little bit of middle ground between the low output MC and MM cartridges. I think most agree that best sound is often achieved with low output MC vs high output MC or MM.

I would like to hear if you have managed to get low MC cartridges to play nice and quiet with Devialet RIAA and what would be your suggestions for cartridge that maybe is in the high output range for low output MC cartridges. I know some cartridges have output of 0,6mV for example (50% more than my current) or should I just go to high output MC.

I would also like to have nice and balanced sound that has a little warmth, good bass extension, details and dynamic sound to listen to broad range of music. My loudspeakers are PMC Twenty5.26.

Let me hear your favourites, thanks in advance my fellow Devialet listeners ?!?

I am not a phono guy so i need some help here ;

I will test a turntable that will be connected to my 440 pro ci.
First of all, phono model is not available at the configuration so i will leave it as it is.
The turntable has a Ortofon MC Quintet blue installed.
So, cartridge type is MC, this one is pretty easy

But what about max level and loading settings to be done?

Advance settings wifi standby is OFF and i will leave it as it is.
Sampling rate?

Anything else i should do?

Thanks in advance..

DS Audio Optical Cartridges

Wondering if anybody has experience with any of the DS Audio optical cartridge offerings. Aside from the usual rave reviews that we seem to find for any utterly expensive gear, the technical approach sounds pretty reasonable to me.

For the ones who might not have heard about optical cartridges or even how they & regular cartridges work (please comment in case I mess this up): MC or MM carts generate sound by having the stylus vibrate the coil or magnet, thus generating an electric output. The lower the mass, the easier for the system to transport the original signal with minimal distortion, this is why these things are such a delicate technical marvel.. In an optical cartridge, the stylus moves an incredibly thin sheet that throws a shadow. These changes in brightness are the only thing that is measured here and then interpreted by an external "equalizer" box and transformed into musical output. This box replaces a conventional phono stage.

The way I understand it, the main advantages are 1) the stylus doesn't have to create a magnetic resistance and can therefore move more smoothly and 2) the shading plate mentioned above is / can be of an extremely low mass, so in theory the system is less prone to distortion.

Due to my wallet I'm already hurting looking at the DS-E1 (2.750 EUR) or possibly the DS-003 (5.500 EUR) both including their respective EQ boxes. Prices go all the way up to 55.000 EUR for the Grand Master system (cartridge alone ~13.000 EUR). One thing to note is the EQ boxes are interchangeable so you could run an E1 with the Grand Master control unit and vice versa. There's also already third party EQ boxes like this one for under a grand from Mr. Nixie: https://nixiekits.eu/product.php?key=ds_audio or this higher end one from EMM Labs https://www.emmlabs.com/dseq1.php . The design of the control units seems quite simple and DS Audio is welcoming third party manufacturers by sharing the schematics so this opens up an array of possibilities for tweaking the sound to someones liking by having multiple different EQ units and not being bound to DS Audio pricing as well..

One major rave review by Danny Kaey (who btw owns a pair of Wilson Chronosonic XVXs): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9bYueEJHwU
