Hello everybody,

after ten years of reading this chat i ask for your advice. I use a Devialet Expert Pro 220, currently with a SoTM 200 Ultra Neo. SoTM is updating this little streamer so he is up to date, but a minimum of 8 years old. Furthermore i use a lot of small helpful friends from After Dark (OXCO and LPS) Synergistic Research - powercable for 220- MIG SX - Tranquility Pods, under RoonRock and Expert and some fuses from SR. Stein Music Q2+Q3 for my Fritz!box and EtherRegen. I also use two REL 510 subs. I like my combo very much. After the announcement of Devialet, not to update the Expert line, nothing changed my mind.
But i am thinking about a new streamer and like the Nagra very much. Currently i am using a JPLAY Signature usb cable to connect the Ultra Neo to my Devialet. Nagra must connect via SPDIF.

Nagra a few days ago introduced a new streamer + dac combo called Nagra Compact Player. I asked the Devialet support if i am able to use this combo and use the Devialet only as a amplifier. They told me that this is no problem, i am furthermore able to use the AES input for my two subs. I asked this because i wrote a Astra review - i think in TAS- they recommend to use high level support from Devialet via AES for best subs performance.

Is anyone in this forum who is using an external streamer and / or a dac combo and / or two subs via AES input and will tell me his experiences. Thank you for reading my whole story and your help😉✌️ Happy listening Eric

Hello all Expert Pro owners.
I have been a Devialet Expert owner ever since they were introduced…..anyone know when?
First a 170 which was then repeated to 200 and 220. A number of years ago a dual mono 440 which I upgraded to Expert Pro with a promise from Devialet to future-proof…..but there was only one update. Like other Devialet owners, I am extremely disappointed and feel cheated and abandoned by Devialet.
I am still happy with the sound quality but also lack many other functionalities.
I have streamed via Roon Rock on an intel nuc both Tidal and now Qobuz. It works great but I would like to use built-in functionality in the 440 Pro.
Now I have found jPlay (upnp) Qobuz and it works great and is both cheaper than Roon and sounds better so I can finally use the 440 Pro without external streamer.

I received my Roon Nucleus One this week in Germany and managed to migrate my local music library to the internal SDD on the Nucleus.
It was a bit more tricky to migrate the Roon database and I was not fully successful. Although, this was less important since my playlists are stored in Qobuz and all this was transferred automaticlly into Roon, same as reading in my local library. I also have set-up a synchronization of my music library between my Mac SDD and the Nucleus SDD.

So, did I realize any improvements? Yes!
First, I can access my music in Roon on the fly via the Roon app on my iPhone. No need to wake up my Mac before.
Second, there is an VPN app called Tailscale installed on the Nucleus One (and on my iPhone now) which finally enables Roon ARC to access my music library from remote, outside my Wifi network.
Finally, I have the impression that the sound on my Expert Pro 220 has improved with a wider soundstage and I started to enjoy longer listening sessions again

Anything I am missing? Yes!
There is an HDMI output in Nucleus One and I would like to see an HDMI input as well to allow Hires streaming from my Oppo SACD player.

Anyone else made first experiences with the Nucleus One?

Hey!

I just started using the Devialet Phantom II‘s and have the issue with TIDAL streaming. I tried out Audirvāna, but it has always connection issues after the Phantoms were in Standby, I always have to reset the network settings.
Does anyone have a solution for this or an alternative, that’s maybe the same pricing like Audirvāna? Because Room is so expensive, it’s just ridiculous.
It‘s a shame that Devialet hasn’t implemented TIDAL Connect yet and it seems like they don’t plan on doing so.

Waiting for your responses!

I have been very sceptical about streamers and their notional benefits so decided to dip my toes in this water by buying a WiiM Ultra. I bought this rather than, say, a Cambridge option because I subscribe to Amazon Music which Cambridge does not support. My “investment” was £350 which is negligible against the price of the Devialet.

I connected it optically to my Devialet with the whole process being quite simple. I set the output as 24/192 and allowed the device to sound balance my room. Initial results are very positive with a more realistic soundstage and clearer separation between instruments and vocals. I had hoped it might stream music to my Dione but have not found a way so far.

Going to need hours of testing to verify all of this 😀

I just got the Holo Audio Red at home to test in my setup and can finally compare it to my Singxer SU-6 as a digital source to the Devialet 1000 Pro using AES input.

Sound Quality:

The Red sounds pretty good in DDC mode. This was using USB input from my PC. It sounds clean and natural.

Next, using the Red running in streamer mode (Red OS using ethernet source) and using its own digital output sounds very nice. I tested with the AES output. A detailed, open sound with a natural tone. Slightly clearer and more nimble sounding compared to using DDC mode from the PC.

Finally, I tried the Red running in streamer mode, with USB output to the Singxer SU-6, which then used AES output to the Devialet. Wow, the output from the Singxer sounded airier with smoother highs, compared to using the AES output directly from the Red.

Adding another tweak into the mix, I used an ifi iDefender+ to inject clean USB power from an LPS into the USB cable going to the Singxer and this sounded even better.

TL;DR: The Red sounds good as a Streamer and DDC. Adding the Singxer to the Red via USB output actually brings an airier soundstage and smoother highs than the Red's own AES output, whilst preserving the natural tone of the Red. The Red's AES output sounds slightly punchier while the Singxer's is smoother and has a bit more depth to the soundstage. It's best to listen to see which you prefer. Both are similar in detail and sound good.

Unexpected feature!

The Red can work as a DDC and Streamer at the same time if the ETHERNET and USB INPUT are connected, and the USB OUTPUT is also connected to another DDC or DAC. You must also have the micro SD with Red OS inserted. For example, this is my test setup:

[PC] --- USB In ---> [Red] --- Optical Toslink ---> [Devialet]
+
[Network] --- Ethernet ---> [Red] --- USB Out ---> [Singxer SU-6] --- AES ---> [Devialet]

Now, in DDC mode, the audio is sent to the Optical output of the Red.
And for streaming services, e.g. Tidal Connect or UPNP, the audio output is sent via USB to Singxer which outputs AES.

Now I can switch between both modes on the Devialet by just switching the inputs. Excellent!

This fits my use case where for videos, games and general PC use, I use DDC mode for audio.
And for more serious listening I can use the Streamer mode via UPNP, Roon, Tidal Connect, etc.

Limitations of the Holo Audio Red:

The Red has only a USB 2.0 output, which doesn't work with my Fibbr Alpha USB cable which requires a USB 3.0 output. Still sounds great with a regular copper AQ Carbon USB cable.

As of today (March 2025), the Red OS streamer support for Tidal Connect is limited to CD quality. It does not support Hi-Rez / Max quality. The Red allows you to use other OS like Volumio (paid) which supports Tidal Connect at Max quality.

I bought my 220 Expert Pro as a one box streamer/DAC/Phono Amp solution some years ago. The phono stage works very well and until recently I was able to Use the AIR software to stream from my Mac which was high quality and infinitely better than Airplay.

I dont understand why Devialet has stopped supporting AIR on the Mac platform. Macs are still exceptionally popular as home laptops and offered a way to get quality streaming. There has never been iPad or iPhone support so anything Apple based is now reduced to bluetooth airplay which is fine for a kitchen speaker but no good for serious listening. Am I missing something or are my only solutions now to use Roon ( which requires a dedicated core ) or to buy another dedicated streamer and simply use the Expert Pro as an Amp? if so any suggestions?

Given there are so many new one box solutions coming to the market it seems strange to drop their core streaming software. The Expert Pro is still an exceptional amp when feed from a source, there is still nothing I have heard at this level that comes even close. The A+T is apparently very good, but its over 2x as much.

The Expert Pro is still an exceptional amp when feed from a source, there is still nothing I have heard at this level that comes even close. The A+T is apparently very good, but its over 2x as much.

I have some problems with drop outs when streaming music with Roon.
What shall I do?

My set up:
Devialet Expert Pro 220
Mac Book Pro is used as as a Roon Core.
When streaming I use Qobuz via Roon.
I run everything via wifi
I have quite a strong wifi network, TX better than 110 MBit/s

I do not use USB or ethernet cable.

It is not possible to connect an ethernet cable from router to Devialet ?
I tried to connect an ethernet cable from Mac to Expert but that did not work(seems very complicated for a normal user).

What can I do to improve conditions? Change settings in Roon?

Does the music stream from the router to the Expert or via Mac to Expert? Can I not stream Qobuz from Mac to Devialet by Ethernet cable?

Thankfull for advice

Hello,

I am facing issues with streaming quality on my Devialet Expert Pro. While using Spotify Connect to stream music; I often notice sound dropouts, buffering, or audio lag, especially with high-bitrate tracks (like those in FLAC format).

I have tried troubleshooting steps such as restarting both the Devialet and my router, ensuring my network connection is stable & checking for firmware updates, but the problem exist .

Has anyone else faced similar issues? I have checked https://devialetchat.com/Forum-Streaming-splunk guide for reference but still need help.

Are there specific settings I should adjust / any known solutions to improve the streaming performance?

I would greatly appreciate any recommendations!

Thank you !
