Airfoil & Airserver
#1
Anyone tried the above software for Mac? It allows one to stream music from iPad or iPhone to your Mac and piped to your DAC (which in our case is Devialet). Airserver claims it can stream lossless.

I had successfully used Airfoil to stream FLAC lossless music from my iPad to my Mac Mini, and via USB play through to Devialet. Any music application running on iPad can be streamed to Mac Mini via this method.

That is interesting!

How would you rate SQ let's say vs Devialet Air and is setup straightforward?

To me, there's no difference in SQ.

Today, I finally got  a chance to test AirServer for Mac. Its difference from Airfoil is that it has a Lossless Airplay channel which allows your iPhone or iPad to stream lossless music to your Mac. Using my iPad, I downloaded QNAP's QMusic HD app to play all music files stored on my QNAP TP-212P NAS. QMusic's indexing of music files is quick, almost instantly. Interestingly, when you start up QMusic it will has a Spotlight page with some music suggestions.

I can't comment on the SQ as I think I have tin ears, but overall quality is good. QMusic can play most of my music which are in FLAC, WAV, APE and CUE.  It plays all bitrates 16/44.1, 24/96 or even 24/192, but whether it streams to Mac at these bitrates or not, I can't tell.

I think there's a Windows version of AirServer, too. For Windows users, you may give it a try.
